Janet Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Yeah this is going to be an even bigger bomb, considering its rating too
RoseBud Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Well they split it into two parts so it's giving double bomb
Scandalous Posted October 4 Posted October 4 i'm surprised yall have so much faith in this movie the studio is investing so much for promo but all musicals have flopped recently so i was never expecting this to smash. hope im wrong tho
Shimenawa Posted October 4 Posted October 4 (edited) GP will go to hear Ariana's angelic vocals Also it is a family friendly movie unlike the Joker Edited October 4 by Shimenawa
selfieclownt Posted October 4 Posted October 4 (edited) I think this has more going for it than FAD. - Family friendly (rated PG) - Beloved IP - Most popular musical ever? There was a long trailer and additional AMC promo tied in with Wicked before my screening of FAD and it played well to the audience. Wicked could be different, but musical adaptations are a hard sell for a true smash. Domestic openings for live action musical comps Les Mis (2012) [PG-13] - 27m Into the Woods (2015) [PG] - 31m In the Heights (2021) [PG-13] - 11m West Side Story (2021) [PG-13] - 10m Wonka (2023) [PG] - 39m Wicked Part 1 budget is reported 145m. It does not need to make as much as FAD would to be considered successful but that is a large number + if it just breaks even that will not look good for Part 2. Edit: also I will add that it being released against Gladiator could work in its favor as effective counter programming. A mini-Barbenheimer is the best case scenario for Wicked. BorderBoy Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Idk but Gaga should've stayed away from the clown since she flopped with Applause 1
alexrex Posted October 4 Posted October 4 JFAD flopped 143 flopped Cowboy Carter flopped Wicked will flop But Madonna is still standing 7
nsst Posted October 4 Posted October 4 I wouldn't be shocked if Wicked flops too. It looks like both Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga are competing for the title of my panned queens this year, two major flops each? a MESS!
Slap Posted October 4 Posted October 4 (edited) It will be her ASIB - classic remake + talented singer = guaranteed success. Her JFAD moment will come after that because the former Nickelodeon actor is definitely a singer first in terms of talent rather than an actor. But tbh I thought JFAD would do well until a few months ago so anything can happen. Edited October 4 by Slap
LoveInStereo Posted October 4 Posted October 4 (edited) Idk why anybody's claiming this will be appraised more gently than JFAD just bc ppl know they're going into a musical with this. Mean Girls 2024 was always conceived as an adaptation of the Broadway show & that was still a bomb. Idk about commercially but critically, it will be panned & I'd put money on it Edited October 4 by LoveInStereo
Junlin Posted October 4 Posted October 4 I feel it will flop the trailer don't really impress me much, while this long and aggressive promotion could really set them up.
Da Vinci Posted October 4 Posted October 4 It's got more of a novelty and is delivering what its target audience actually wants unlike J: FAD 1
UnusualBoy Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Arianka's Wicked should be, it's an adaptation of a play so at least people kinda know what to expect, although the fact that is a 2 parts film may hurt it but we'll see.
Bosque Posted October 4 Posted October 4 John Chu is a competent director and it looks like he will play it safe, so I'm sure the movie will be watchable at least. I do think it'll be a financial flop though
Gorjesspazze9 Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Nah, wicked is like one of the most mainstream musicals of all time. And it's looks like it's actually gonna be one of the bigger movies of the year. Idk who wanted a Joker musical in the first place.
Achilles. Posted October 4 Posted October 4 It will get passable but average reviews. If the film was truly great, they would have taken it to film festivals and built it up as awards fare. They didn't do that, so they intend for it to be mostly a commercial endeavor—like last year's Wonka. Critic reviews in the 65-78 range. Box office in the $500M-$800M range. Maxes out at 5 Oscar nominations (Set Design, Costume Design, Hair and Make Up Styling, Sound, Visual Effects). But maybe less than that. Probably better than the 0 Wonka got.

gr33dy4Ari Posted December 7 Posted December 7 Crazy how this site always wishes for Ariana's downfall but it's just doesn't happen 1
