Lady Claire Posted December 5 Posted December 5 Okay i just heard the album. My impressions: number one girl: This one is a cute ballad but i really can't see the reason why this is the opener of the album and the second promo/single, aside of the fact that Bruno co-wrote it. It's perfectly competent but doesn't bring anything new to the table and would've been a cute closer or second to last song. Her vocals on the bridge are soo good though. 7/10 3am: This one is perfect!! It's very radio-ready with an extremely catchy chorus and would've been the perfect follow up to APT. Love this! 10/10 two years: This is literally Never Be the Same by Camila Cabello if that song was made by Taylor Swift. It's the perfect definition actually. It's also extremely catchy and will def become a fan favorite but the references here are too obvious that i can't think of anything else but this. Still, i love that song. 9/10 toxic till the end: It's a great song and has lots of potential as a single but there's something lacking on the production and i can't point what it is. I just wish it went a lil harder. The verses reminds me of In the Dark by Camila. The chorus is a delicious explosion of sounds, love that. 8/10 drinks or coffee - This one is sooo different than anything else and unexpected?? It's as if it was made during a phase of experimentation of her sound and she ended up liking it a lot. I loved it. Idk why but i can totally imagine Troye Sivan singing on this? Maybe we need a remix! One of my favorites for sure. 10/10 APT - It's already a classic and The Ting Tings vibes are so cool! It sounds nothing like the rest of the album though, it's as if it was a droplet that smashed hard and they decided to include on the album later like Bebe did with I'm Good and Kim with Unholy It's the obvious choice as the lead even if Bruno wasn't on it, so she smashed it! 10/10 gameboy - Another favorite but sounds a lot like 3AM and it feels a bit redundant to have both on the same album. I don't mind really since these are among my favorites but i can't help but think about this. 10/10 stay a little longer - It's another cute ballad but a lot better than N1G. I love how the production grows; still, it sounds like a classical/doo-*** ballad that everyone and their mother used to make back in 2016-2018. Her vocals are sooo good too. 8/10 not the same - It's... a filler. Starts from nothing and goes nowhere. It has an interesting country and folk vibe to it, but the production doesn't make much with it, so when it ends you think: "oh... ok." The lyrics are nice though. 6/10 call it the end - Another... reduntant song since we already had N1G and SALL as power ballads and this one doesn't bring anything new next to them for it to stand out. 6/10 too bad for us - I LOVE this one. It's very mellow and slow but the melody is so ethereal and sounds so familiar that you can't help but love it. I wonder if there was a main inspiration or if there's a sample, but i just love it. I think it'll truly shine on live performances with a whole arena/stadium singing along to this. 10/10 dance all night - This reminds me of All These Years by Camila during the verses but the chorus truly grows and ends the album on a high note. I wish Greg Kurstin produced more tracks cause that would be so ******* cool. 8/10 I personally enjoyed the album but i would change: - The tracklisting order - Ditch "call it the end", "number one girl" and "not the same" for new songs exploring a different sound. "gameboy" too since it sounds a lot like 3am but i love this one, so no - Change some singles: The lead would be "APT", the 2nd "3AM", the third "two years" and then "toxic" with the album's release, but i understand they knew APT would be a instant smash and wanted to drop the album as fast as they could. Overall i think the album is really cute. Not gonna lie that i expected a bit more but still is very competent. I think it reminds me a lot of Camila by Camila Cabello on the singer-songwriter acoustic sensibilities and a urgency on having a departure from their groups' sound, while also having some radio-ready songs that may sound a lil out of the place only to push the album for larger audiences. There are some redundant songs though and i wish she ditched some of them to experiment more with her sound like she did with APT and "drinks or coffee", for example. The album also suffers from having some filler towards the end and some people might find a lil boring bc of the tracklisting's order, that honestly, doesn't help much. It does its job and puts her on a nice position on the mainstream. It also stands on its own as her personal sound instead of a BLACKPINK's extension, which is really cool. I would rate this as a 75-80 out of 100
Europe Posted December 5 Posted December 5 Too bad for us is by far and obviously the best song on here, I am very confused as to why was it not a single yet? Is her team just stupid?
hallucinate Posted December 5 Author Posted December 5 first of all i just want to say i'm so proud of rosé 3 am, two years, drinks or coffee, gameboy, not the same, dance all night are the highlights for me i won't be using the ballads much (number one girl was enough tbh) but they are still nice additions to the album

Sonny Posted December 5 Posted December 5 Oh wow the album is INCREDIBLE, Rosie I'm so proud of you! stay a little longer left such a big impression on me, the vocals motherrrrr. BP can disband at this point and Idc anymore cause I never want to hear her sing RATATATA ass songs anymore. 2
Saint James Posted December 6 Posted December 6 her voice is not that pleasant on most tracks the album is very much what i expected it to be but im hoping ill end up saving a few songs. 2
BadBoy Posted December 6 Posted December 6 APT sounds so out of place lmao, everything else is what I expected from Rosé (derogatory) but it's not bad at all there are some highlights like drinks or coffee and gameboy, wish she waited to release this cause I know she would change so many things after seeing APT's mega success, but I respect her for not doing that. Rosé this is a good start and I'm happy you are having the hit of the year.
NewStanner Posted December 6 Posted December 6 Halfway through the album and there's not a single skip or dud for me... I actually really like every song so far, oh Godsie... 2
J-esper Posted December 6 Posted December 6 The album is nice though I do wonder of the fans she gained from ATP. won't be thrown off by it

Hephaestus Posted December 6 Posted December 6 I've waited so long for this album and I'm so glad it's great, it gives me eternal sunshine's little sister (not sonically, but thematically). I have to point the obvious missteps of leaning so heavily on mid tempos/ballads and grouping most of them in the second half of the album, not a good idea. Thankfully she's releasing a deluxe with more upbeats tracks and I'm sure it'll do wonders to balance the whole thing out. That being said, this album is definitively gonna go platinum in my house. A solid 8/10, give it a chance divas!
