BlahBlahBlah Posted September 30 Posted September 30 I can't really get into her music but I can recognize the appeal. She's just something different/new in kind of an overcrowded year from the big names.

Surely +20 lbs of face makeup isn't deluding everyone like that. The music is very basic. Maybe she should do songs about flowers and rivers. That's definetly groundbreaking

Personally I gave the album 3 full listens, maybe 2-3 songs I likes the rest didn't click with me, and I really, really wanted .... Then I watched some of her interviews to think maybe I will vibe with her personality and no, it was even worse, it was like she binge-watched all Drag Race season in a week, with all the nail clicking and attitude talking LOL Her music to me doesn't really match with the look. For me it is like. You have Taylor, then you have Sabrina which is basically the sexy version of Taylor and then you have Chappell which is the quirky-artsy "gaga" version of Taylor, cause musically it is all this 80s synth inspired guitar pop songs and they could be sung but any of the three 1

Trent W Posted September 30 Posted September 30 2 hours ago, JO1s said: She's a pop artist, it's more than music it's the whole package. Gaga's actual music wasn't groundbreaking at the time but her whole package of music and image are what drew people in. The Fame was not groundbreaking, but TFM definitely was a whole other sound I would say that Gaga did had some of the groundbreaking sound in her debut if we count TFM as part of it
Wicked Posted September 30 Posted September 30 Can y'all understand there's people younger than you who haven't explored music like that (and a lot of y'all haven't either but that's another subject) and thus, her music is new & groundbreaking to them? 3
dreampop Posted September 30 Posted September 30 is she a dancer? I keep seeing people say stage presence

What exactly offers Chappell Roan despite being a lesbian (which is not reason enough to hype her up tbh)? And why does every singer have to bring 'something new to the table'? Isn't it enough with just making likable music?

A new aggressive, ignorant and unprofessional weird sad bich came in the music field and just because she looks like a CLOWN she is a lgbt icon? Moonlight Nation Posted September 30 Posted September 30 4 hours ago, dreampop said: is she a dancer? I keep seeing people say stage presence Artists don't need to dance for their stage presence to be considered good. She's a fantastic singer and knows how to command a crowd. It's telling the constant positive buzz around her festival performances played a key role in her mainstream breakthrough. That on its own would already make her a strong and engaging performer, but she's also incredibly creative with her costumes and concepts, taking inspiration from drag culture to truly embody different personas onstage in a very fun way. Interestingly, the "HOT TO GO!" cheerleader routine has become quite a memorable dance craze for its accessible simplicity, where we saw many of the festival attendees faithfully replicating the dance during Chappell's performances these past months. 1
UnusualBoy Posted September 30 Posted September 30 No one has said she is groundbreaking but her image and persona is fresh in the pop scene. Her lyrics are explicit but funny and she has vocals for days. 1
Letters From Adi Posted September 30 Posted September 30 This whole thread is honestly one of the saddest things that I have come across in ages. Goes to show that gay men are still men at the end of the day and misogyny will stay rooted in many men regardless (even if they themselves are part of an oppressed group). Chappell is not comparable to the likes of t.a.t.u. or Katy as their songs were disingenuous, written from a male perspective about fetishizing women. You cannot pass off bisexual experiences as lesbian because bisexual people will always have the recourse to fall back upon someone from the opposite sex. They have bi erasure, but it's vastly different from the homophobia as well as misogyny lesbians face in general. A handful women had songs become hits here and there, but this is arguably the first time we are seeing a lesbian popstar rise to power. The music isn't what alone is her branding, it's her imagery and intention. Take that away and even albums like The Fame won't have much to offer but some club songs. 1
