PerfectCure Posted September 28 Posted September 28 ATRL has seemingly decided to run with the narrative that Lady Gaga is "back to flopping" after releasing a soundtrack album of jazz covers. Do you think she is a flop? Current stats to consider (data collected today): • 'Harlequin' (album that ATRL has labelled as a failure) reached #1 in 59 countries on iTunes • Also 'Harlequin' was the fastest album of 2024 to reach #1 on iTunes. (it did so in 20 minutes) • Lady Gaga currently has 96.6 monthly million listeners on Spotify. (4th in the world) • Lady Gaga had 5 songs reach over 1 million streams in the latest Spotify update. (release dates for each song: 2024, 2008, 2011, 2018, 2018) • 'Die With A Smile' has recently spent its 34th day at #1 on Spotify; longest song to do so this year was 'Beautiful Things' by Benson Boone (35 days). • 'Die With A Smile' is currently gaining an average of 11 million streams daily after its first month of release. Bonus question: Would you be ashamed to admit Lady Gaga is an unsuccessful artist in 2024 in public if you also claimed that on ATRL? 3

That's the only streaming stat I could get about the album considering it has not spent a full day on other streaming platforms yet. Hope it helps!

They might consider you biased for only talking about that song. That is why I made sure to include stats about her newest soundtrack album and her latest streaming stats in the OP as well

TedLasso Posted September 28 Posted September 28 (edited) Her projects can flop but Gaga herself is not a flop artist. She's currently the fourth most streamed artist in the world and has the awards and recognition to prove her status. Edited September 28 by TedLasso 2

Jack! Posted September 28 Posted September 28 To answer this with a level head isn't as simple as saying yes or no, I guess. I think given her huge fanbase, her early hit years and the fact her name is still prevalent in elements of pop culture 16 years into her career, that would give you the objective answer of no. But even as a fan of hers it's important to highlight her career from 2012/2013 to 2017/2018 and admit the flaws and the issues that had/could have had on the future of her career. I don't think she's ever had a DOA era, ARTPOP had buzz and the first problem the era had was going head to head with a then-monstrously popular Katy Perry. Following that up with an R. Kelly collab, and an arguably lacklustre album, it was all a bit all over the shop but from a figurative point of view the album could have performed worse. Joanne had a rougher start since PI failed to hit top 10 (first of her leads not to do so) and the sound probably wasn't for her long-term fans. And I don't think the "stripped back" scene she was giving off was enough to interest people overall. Luckily with the Super Bowl and Million Reasons having a charting moment, it probably helped give her some well needed credence at the time. Given her previous status and the success of her past eras, is it fair to say these eras flopped? I can't necessarily answer no to that question, but in the grand scheme looking back I guess you can say they weren't as bad as we maybe thought they were? Her and her team have done a good job picking up the pieces of those years and drawing focus back into her career, albeit in some instances it hasn't been through her music. But despite not being the seemingly untouchable pop-star that she was in 2009-2011 anymore, I don't think the last six years have been awful for her and I think when looking at her career from a longevity scope, she is still pretty relevant. Surmising she's a flop off of Harlequin is a little dense, but it is what it is. 3 2
