You thought an album full of covers of old songs announced 2 days before release would do 30 million first day? What other Jazz/classics covers album has achieved that?

it's so embarrassing for them, gaga's career is on such an upward crazy trajectory atm she is doing impressive numbers with her jazz covers alboom and hitting new streaming peaks with her song and as an artist on the charts, her old songs from born this way outdoing the entirety of 143, while katy's career has nosedived and exploded so fast yet they expect us to believe they are in the same boat or whatever

Y'all are very unserious with this thread.  Jazz/classic albums are near dead in the streaming era, honestly surprised that it was even able to pull those numbers with a two day announcement no matter who was attached to the project.

please we're talking about Gaga, if the album is good it would pull more but it's not good, i skipped most of the record and i LOVE jazz but this is a very weak jazz record, i had to turn on Bewitched by Laufey to recover. stick to pop, she's not a jazz artist and doesn't even fit her.

I mostly agree with you, but the quality of the album, which is okyish, is not what we are discussing here. A lot of people are having a kii as if they doesn´t know that with a pop album the numbers would be vastly different. This is a war of people pretending things. Lidos are pretending they care about Harlequin, and others are pretending they believe this is remotely comparable to flopping with a new and anticipated pop album. 

Gaga doesn´t have much to contribute to jazz as a genre, especially by covering songs that are very overused at this point, but she loves jazz and American classics and she have fun releasing things like this. At least Harlequin gave us Happy Mistake, which is pretty good honestly.

Hm, yes, because The Gift which had

- all original songs vs 9 jazz covers/

- contemporary music vs jazz standards

- 17 songs vs 11 songs

- Kendrick Lamar, Burna Boy, Jay Z, Childish Gambino, Pharrell, Major Lazer and like 10 more other artists aside Beyoncé vs just Gaga singing

- a lead single + music video before release attached to the 1.6bn grossing movie having obvious high hopes for the Oscar (not nominated in the end) vs Gaga's album announced 2 days before

is obviously very comparable to HARLEQUIN.  (Btw if we extrapolate the tracklist to 17 songs, it could've done 10.8M)

the numbers are great, jazz artists barely have high peaks, there are some songs thanks to TikTok but overall the numbers are okay but it would pull a bit more if she really dig deeper in the jazz style. same as bey, CC is okay but i miss the quality of country music, it lacks same as this. also she did not have any major playlisting or promo so.

I don't understand GaGa fans.. So when choke to choke did well, and won Grammys and sold over a million copies.. It was shoved in everyone's faces but the minute she releases a solo jazz record themed after one of the most biggest, most anticipated movies of the year... suddenly it's just a "side project". No I am not a Katy fan. Just saying.

Honestly I think that the only way Gaga could dig deeper into jazz music is with new original songs, but she´s too scared to try, and I understand why. I remember that during the promo for the first C2C it was stated that it was going to be a couple of original songs, but those songs were obviously discarded and never talked about again. Probably Artpop mess traumatized her forever.
