Did TTPD destroy Taylor's momentum?

Recommended Posts

She currently has only one album in the top 20, whereas Morgan Wallen and Zach Bryan have multiple albums on the charts.

Before the release of TTPD, she consistently had 5 or 6 albums in the top 20, with some weeks even seeing 5 of her albums in the top 10.

Her streaming numbers have also plummeted, with daily streams down by 20-30 million compared to before TTPD was released, despite the new 30-track album.

She's still the most popular artist in the world, and her streaming numbers remain significantly higher than anyone else's. However, it's undeniable that her music is being consumed less since the release of TTPD.

What do you think is the reason for this? Did TTPD destroy her momentum?

The US is the biggest market in the world and so her catalog was at its peak when she was touring there. Just see how she got a significant boost everywhere she went but most of those markets are not that big so it doesn't really affect her numbers overall

Brave coming from a Lady Ga Ga fan, whose most listenable body of work is an EP

The tour is what was giving her discography the insane boost. It's more that ending than TTPD being an awful turd of an album.

I hate when my momentum gets destroyed by more weeks at number 1 than 99% of pop girls cumulative totals :WAP:

I don't think those numbers were sustainable long term. It'll be interesting to see what kind of return to form we see once the tour is back here in the States.

Hasn't she had sold like 10 million album units this year alone?  Poor thing.  Just out of curiosity, how are the other girls doing?

143 ended her momentum

Katy's performances were better than anything Taylor has done.

About her catalogue daily numbers, Swiftmania would slow down regardless of it being or not being released.

Still HUGE ofc, but it was impossible to not slow down at some point.

She would be getting way less hate that's for sure

but she wouldn't have a +2m US opening week

so it is what it is

It’s not like her next album, whether that is Rep TV or TS12, is gonna bomb following TTPD :skull:

IMO I don't think TTPD was a necessary or even the right next move for her following the success of Midnights. It's helped reinvigorate the Eras tour by providing new material, but she hasn't done much promo for the music itself, and as a result, it's not gaining as much traction as Midnights. Also, the variants and various vinyls are still out of control lmao

Well no! And for the record, I think it's a better album than Midnights.  I feel like a lot of people gave it one listen (if that) and called it off...which isn't hard to understand since it is such a long album.  But it's kind of blossomed into one of her best albums for me.

She hasn't released new vinyl variant since release week. Unlike Charli XCX or Chappel Roan who are shitting out a new vinyl variant every other week. But y'all don't actually care about theee things until it's time to attack Taylor. :rip:

No, the tour was the main driving force in the Billboard numbers, in similar fashion this year has been her best in most of Europe and TTPD is her fastest seller in a calendar year in pretty much every country. Alongside the tour it was the perfect storm of Don't Blame Me, august and Enchanted going viral at the same time on tiktok boosting rep, folklore and Speak Now to smash alongside Midnights and Lover.
