Suilen Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Consciously and deliberately? Not really. But almost always those cancelled artists start putting out bad music after the fact, so it's easy to stop listening to them. Or, if the reason for one's cancellation was personal, such as Roisin's case, the (new) music becomes tainted. People can claim that TERF Parade is her best album all they want, but all I hear is noise. I could probably stomach her older music, but I haven't had any desire to listen to her previous albums ever since her statements. Again, it's not my active decision, it's something on the... instinctive level. Now, I don't mind if someone keeps listening to those cancelled artists, and I want the same energy for me. I do mind when people don't just listen to them but keep praising them to high heavens, especially on an LGBTQ forum, but I can get over it. As for those who try to boycott stuff, I feel like there tends to be some picking and choosing, even if two artists/producers were cancelled for the same reason. I know some people who are boycotting Dr. Luke and bumping Tetsuya Komuro's stuff all day long. To me, they are both disgusting abusers, and if I opted not to stream one at all, I'd do the same for the other. I suppose that people could excuse listening to TK by saying that most of the stuff came out after his golden period in the 90s, and no one really cares about his later production, but the Kahara thing was happening during the 90s. I remember people making fun of her suicide attempts and overall behavior back in the day, but now that we're adults, it's time to realize how ****** up that was. I suppose it helps that Namie's not on streaming, as people were mostly listening to him through her early albums, but then we have plenty of Ayumi's music produced by him after everything was known. Anyway, I don't boycott things, so it's not my ethical conundrum, but it's interesting to see how people reconcile those. Most of the time they don't, and it smells of hypocrisy.
