makeawish
30 minutes ago, Curaga said: Like, I think most users here would agree that they don't want to support an artist like K*nye W*st because of the extremely hateful opinions and people he publicly supports; that's an easy one to justify. kanye is an interesting one cos i used to really like him, stopped listening after the slavery comments, gradually crept back to his pre 2018 stuff and then just could not face him at all once he went full nazi. i will never listen to a thing he's done since he went full crank cos he's such a genuinely terrible person now and that leaks into what he does so much, that trajectory is there maybe as early as MBDTF. but i've found myself going back to late registration occasionally, i miss who he used to be
$ebert
Yup, I stop consuming their material, I have Nicki Minaj, Katy and Drake on the list
Park Jinyoung
I kinda just stop checking for them. but if I still have their old songs pre-everything, I will still listen to them occasionally. It depends what they did really.
Vixen Eyes
yes. Nicki, Katy and Marilyn Manson have not made an appearance in my library or last.fm since their cancellings
sweetkiss
this is something im still "fighting" with... its really heartbreaking when some things come to light and it ruins the music... i was in denial for really long time about some artists... i dont know, i dont play as often one would say, but there is no general rule, its complicated because what if i have certain memory with a song, so i still play it and at that moment at least i am not thinking about what artist has done, but in general, if i see the news about them i dont engage, i avoid... its complicated and im sure theres so much we dont know, we are probably right now listening to horrible people we just dont know
TaylorsSquad
It's hard for me to fully cancel someone I was a fan of I'm working on it but I'm only human.
YouSmellLikeHospital
I may or may not have a playlist titled "problematic bops" for this exact situation - including Azealia Banks, Make Me Proud by Drake ft. Nicki, M.I.A, etc. but I rarely visit it There are some that I used to love but don't listen to anymore because the person sucks so much, like Rihanna's Birthday Cake remix ft. Chris Brown, Ciara's Turntables ft. Chris Brown, Last Night by Diddy ft. Keyshia Cole, to name a few Edited September 22 by YouSmellLikeHospital

loveisdead9582
R. Kelly and Chris brown weren't exactly huge on my playlisting before they got cancelled. Every now and again I'll listen to some old pre-cancellation Azaelia. MJ is still played fairly often. Justin Timberlake has been removed from my playlisting altogether. Never cared much for Morgan Walen so no big loss there. Nicki Minaj occasionally sneaks in every now and again (pre-cancellation). Who else is there? Klein
When I don't want to support an artist because of their actions, I simply download a mp3 from Youtube, add it to my library, and listen to that. This way, I can still listen to the music I like without contributing a cent to an artist's wealth. That's my way of "separating the art from the artist". freshoutthebuffet
If I liked them before the cancellation, no. Plus, it's not like they're making money out the ass from streaming anyway. I'm sure the half of penny they're making off me streaming isn't funding their lifestyle
Graves
Depends on the crime, depends on the artist. There's some like MJ who I can just stop listening to because I was never a big fan to begin with. Then there's artists I was hugely into like Roisin Murphy, who I just can't bear to listen to as her music just makes me feel kinda sad now. I guess I'll say I don't believe in the moral grandstanding of telling people you can never listen to an artist who did bad things. It's a personal decision for everybody to make individually. Maybe actively championing them is a bit of a mess, but keeping their old stuff in your Liked Songs? Go for it. Hell, I have a bunch of Azealia songs in there and I'm well aware of how awful she is.

Ugh, Roisin was a huge one for me too Just before I was able to register here, I had found that "Roisin debuts transphobia" thread and was checking it constantly, hoping it was all a big misunderstanding... but then she posted that completely bogus non-apology and I deleted all her music

TipToe
It doesn't influence my behavior much unless i was already on the fence, but if i really enjoy the music (and for a long time) i will keep listening. Like M.I.A. for example, everytime i see her face nowadays i cringe but her old music still goes hard so
its_britney_bitch
I don't go and delete their music but I find that I just want to skip it when it comes on anyway. Which is annoying - I don't like Diddy's music but I have some songs saved because of the features (Thought You Said feat. Brandy… I need a solo version STAT!), but it just makes me uncomfortable to hear his voice after seeing that video of him attacking Cassie. Same with R Kelly. I can separate the art from the artist though, I still have songs they wrote or produced but have no vocals on because I just don't associate the songs with them. Phil Spector literally murdered a woman but his production is iconic and will forever be connected with the 60s - you can't rewrite history. Wicked
I listen to what I want, I'm just not gonna defend anyones actions or views just because they made music I like. I'm not on their payroll.
justin.
Depends on what they did. Kanye used to be my favorite artist circa Graduation - MBDTF, but I've had no interest in touching his music in a decade. Meanwhile, Lana gets cancelled every other week, but I can't quit her. goverm3nth0ker
no but i stopped following them as a celebrities, like nicki katy demi, but i casually still listen to the music cuz there's the art and then the artist

Gladiator
I don't really subscribe to conforming to the cancelation of someone by the masses but rather myself. I care less about the actions of artists than the Internet generally does. The only artist that comes to mind that was canceled by the public that I stopped listening to was R. Kelly, but I only ever listened to his feature on Do What U Want. I think Nicki is a dumbass but I was just listening to the Re Up earlier today.
