Did you stop listening to artists after they had gotten cancelled?

If not, which artists do you still listen to?

I still listen to Azealia Banks. :gaycat4:

Christina Aguileria might have been erased by both the gp and the music industry after 2006 but I still listen to Your Body, it's a bop ! :xtinass:

depends on the artist & what happened.

for example i could never stream r kelly bc most his hits/lyrics reflect what he did. so its hard to separate the art from the artist. :toofunny3:

I easily cut off R. Kelly and for the most part Chris Brown but lately got back into his old bops sorry. I also blocked Keri Hilson until she changed her ways. Don't have to worry about blocking one hit wonders (Kelis) the chances of their one song auto playing is rare.

Luckily I never listened to any of them in the first place.

Except for MJ and Azealia which I'm not sure they even count. The former is cancelled by nature and the latter is not a fellon so :oh:

Usually if I "cancel" an artist it just means I stop checking for their new stuff.

Honestly I do

but now that I think about it, they probably won't be getting much coin anyways (+my 1 stream won't count for much) so it's whatever..

if i just think they're loons - azealia, grimes, MIA - then i don't get too fussed at all. some of this i find tricky eg there's mj stuff i find easier to go back to, esp pre-allegations era. i'm not going to listen to diddy, arcade fire, ryan adams etc  but this has not been a great sacrifice tbh.

it's one of those things where it's hard to find consistency tho. there's a lot of stuff about 60s/70s rockers that regularly just got brushed under the carpet to the pt where we don't even really think about it, but if i did then there's no beatles, stones, bowie, zeppelin, the who etc, acts who are so much part of music history that they become impossible to avoid.

i tend to think that you can't really set any hard and fast standards aside from how uncomfortable you personally feel in a given moment. a lot of great artists are just bad people and it's always been true

I still enjoy Natalia Kills albums, she was bland stupid with her critiques but her music is great :gaycat2:

Nope. Art is art. The artist is just the messenger

Sometimes yes: I find it difficult to separate the art from the artist in general, but I have respect for people who are able to separate them and just enjoy the art without any guilt.

I think that I'm pretty inconsistent in choosing which artists I'm "allowed" to listen to :clown:  Like, there is a number of artists that I won't listen to based on hearsay or my own perceptions of those artists, and if I try to explain how I've drawn those lines, it's not always completely logical.

Like, I think most users here would agree that they don't want to support an artist like K*nye W*st because of the extremely hateful opinions and people he publicly supports; that's an easy one to justify. It's harder to justify blocking an artist on Spotify like Justin Bieber just because I read random online comments a number of years ago saying that he's bad person. People say a lot of bad things about Ariana Grande too and I somehow have no problem separating her (or people's opinions about her) from her music :clown:

This is a topic I've been thinking about a lot lately because I haven't felt like listening to Regina Spektor's music for a long time now, and she was one of my favorite artists. Because of her allegiance to Israel, I question if I want to give her the time of day anymore. Her music itself doesn't have anything to do with the Israel–Palestine conflict, so I guess I shouldn't feel guilty if I listen to her old music for nostalgia; I wouldn't judge other people for doing so.

No, cuz it's just music. If I like a song, then I like a song. Thats just normal behavior.

R Kelly. Loved his music but he absolutely disgusts me to the point where hearing his music just pisses me off.
