Roberto Posted September 20 Posted September 20 None, of course. Spoiler If I was forced to choose, I would go for Taylor.
SharGaga Posted September 20 Posted September 20 TTPD is better, every single song is better by a landslide I'm afraid. 2 1

OT: neither album is really good but 143 at least isn't that forgettable and has some cute songs. I'll @ you in a few months and we'll see how this stands And as for the "obscure and unnecessary metaphors", here is every metaphor (and I even threw in all the similes too to be generous) I found from Katy's lyrics on 143: Spoiler "she's a flower, she's a thorn" "crawling on me like a centipede" "dripping like some ice" "I'm his drug" "on him like a suntan" "living in a candy daydream" "Like the sun is always rising, like the stars are in the sky" "I'd given up watching sunsets" "Breathe me in, another dose takе a ride on my rainbow" "You get me diving deep in your system, I'm just a prisoner in your prison, you got me hooked on your algorithm" "I'm seeing it different now that I'm outside of the storm" "Don't let the weight of the world be heavy on your wings" I may have missed a few, I'm sure you'll let me know TTPD may be overwrought (and I disagree, but that's neither here nor there), but at least I feel confident that Taylor attended and subsequently passed all of her English classes 2
Katy.Kat.23 Posted September 20 Posted September 20 My first impression of TTPD was an AI trying to create a Taylor Swift album and that she really didn't have much to say so she relied on what she thought her fans would want instead of what she wanted to do which is my exact same criticism of 143. Neither are abysmal albums but in their discography they're both just kinda....there.
YellowRibbon Posted September 20 Posted September 20 ATRL is on a new Taylor hate era so I'd expect the kind of responses shown above. TTPD clearly clears any Katy Perry album ever sans Teenage Dream (maybe) 3 1
LoveInStereo Posted September 20 Posted September 20 I wish I knew which users voted for 143 so I could know whose opinions to completely disregard going forward. I get taste is subjective but jfc… 143 is the worst new pop album I've heard since Britney Jean 6 1

I'd rather be called pretentious than be caught dead slobbering for an artist desperately trying (unsuccessfully, might I add) to last-ditch speedrun a f*ghag era to assemble a Kylie/Charli fanbase since everything else has failed her This album is artistically lacking and is not worth sticking your neck out for, sis. It'll be forgotten in a month, except in ATRLer circles where it will be derided and laughed at as the final gasp of Katy's career before total irrelevance. Between the recycled and sample heavy instrumentals that had aged and rotted away in the vault YEARS before their release and the horny high schooler decides she wants to write pop songs about experiences she's never had lyrics, there's really nothing of merit to grab on to here Edited September 20 by wastedpotential 2

Embarrassing! Also it's you who stans for the 35yo horny high schooler so there's that.. 5

And I know a bunch of Swifties IRL who hate that she wrote love songs about Matty but she made that decision anyway despite knowing it would alienate a lot of her base. Taylor made the choices she wanted to make despite the consequences. Katy made a faceless, generic, anonymous mess without a drop of passion that's only "for the fans" in the sense that literally nobody else would want to hear it 1

Point me to the 143 song with more than 50 unique words and then we can talk You having to pull the "I know you thought you were funny" card because you know you're standing on reeeeeally shaky artistic ground, let ALONE the highly anticipated sales and streaming figures 1
Gladiator Posted September 20 Posted September 20 (edited) A tougher comparison poll for me would be Smile vs Tortured Poets. Edited September 20 by Gladiator

Granted Taylor's effort was obviously better music. And literally one song out of the 30 was calling her fans out be so serious (and maybe that's why it was the best one on the album)
Digitalism Posted September 20 Posted September 20 I did not expect those poll results comming into this thread
