There's a lot of cases where critics trashed a film but the public enjoyed. I guess we'll have to wait. The film's budget is unnecessarily big, like, the first one was made for very little money and they should have kept the budget at around 100M for this film. Thus, they could have saved face. Plus, it's a risky move for two reasons: it remains rated R, and it has musical elements. Even if it opens to $70M, that would be quite an achievement. It might even have strong legs. As long as it hits $200M domestically, it would be a great feat, and the movie should perform well globally. Look at *Twisters*—it bombed worldwide but was a huge success in North America. Not all sequels are bound to be that much more successful than the first. Deadpool 2 made more or less than the first for instance (which is great). It's the movie's budget, promotion is almost always equal to that and then there's the cinema's cut per ticket. A movie needs to almost triple it's budget to make profit.
