She sounded extremely bothered and pressed while saying this too. Ironically, she has never served the latter two things or at least not for a very long time and arguably been serving too much of the former two as of late. We can tell by her tone-deaf decisions and corresponding responses that she is in fact not listening to any noise. The audacity to pretend to be a role model for women after backstabbing her former friend and employing a rapist. This is hilarious considering how she is constantly reminding everyone how unbothered she allegedly is. She seems very online for someone recommending others to touch grass. Overall, a totally hypocritical speech. she tries to project this image of being unbothered when it just comes across as tone death and well…idiotic. she would actually do well to look at the negative reception she's getting online and perhaps learn from it instead of acting like it's all baseless? using buzzwords like "touch grass!!!" only goes so far and doesn't excuse her from working with a rapist, but i guess you can't teach common sense to a rick caruso supporting, out of touch 40 year old that has a history of cultural appropriation, micro-agressions towards people of color and to add to this list, aligns themselves with abusers of women. 4 2
State of Grace. Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Deserved. She really had some nerve to stand up there and pretend to be an advocate for women when she just performed her newly released song with that rapist. "Block out all the noise!" would have been a nice clap back at the ~haterz~ if they were coming for your hairstyle again, not rightfully calling your ass out for platforming him. 6 8
Peak Now Posted September 12 Posted September 12 I honestly don't think Katy, or her PR team for that matter, have matured out of the Prism era like yes girl you are fabulous for a throwback but we don't really need a rerun of the embarrassing **** that went down back then 1
Alaska. Posted September 12 Posted September 12 I would be throwing tomatoes at her, so she got off easy 13
brazil Posted September 12 Posted September 12 I didnt hear any boo and she seemed fine. That said, she doesnt deserve this award. What has happened to MTV they used to be very pick to give out the Vanguard Award 1 1 1 2

Overall, a totally hypocritical speech. This is why I feel a bit conflicted. Because she is a pop icon that spent 16 years working hard and making a career for herself and she has had to endure months of extreme criticism, many people on the Internet acting as if nothing she ever did was worthy, which must suck for her. But at the same time we can't forget the criticism has been totally legit. I hope one day she can look back and genuinely regret these decisions, but so far that doesn't seem to be the case. 4

Digitalism Posted September 12 Posted September 12 (edited) So there's like 2 gays booing in 4 seconds of the video. Some of you got a little too exited for 4 seconds Edited September 12 by Digitalism 1 5
ThePopStop Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Ok so it wasn't just me who heard the booing!!! I was listening on surround sound and it happened twice. I wonder if MTV is going to edit it out of future broadcasts like they did the audience gasps from Gaga's 2009 Paparazzi performance. Overall I felt her speech was a bit bitter and angry. She shouldn't have addressed the haters. Focus on your successes & celebrate. Move on. 1

BlahBlahBlah Posted September 12 Posted September 12 With that obviously bought and paid for "Most Iconic Performance Award" and this whole VMA campaign you can tell the label had BIG expectations for this era, which is even more sad when you realize no one could step outside of the Capitol echo chamber and see the career poison that Dr. Luke obviously is. Also, all this for (I'm sorry) some kind of Playskool Chromatica variant??? Oh Katy... get out the guitar again you're capable of so much better music than this ****. 5
UnusualBoy Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Atrl should follow her advice and touch some grass 3 2

EndofASadMovie Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Everything she said would be correct and heartfelt ( I would say "yes queen") if 143 didn't exist yet 2
