DougAF Posted September 11 Posted September 11 Oh wow, look she endorsed Kamala… like I said would happen MONTHS ago, but only at a good time where her endorsement would have a greater impact. Her doing this right after the debate was incredibly smart, because now people are actually going to look and see at what was said in the debate itself. There's a lot of things you can hate Taylor for, and I'd agree with a lot of them, but her political choices aren't one of them. The morons peddling the idea that she was hurting democrats and enabling trump and republicans with her silence are dense as ****, but not much more to be expected from people on stan Twitter. 7 1

However, saying anyone not wanting to vote for Kamala is inherently supporting Trump is reductive, intentionally daft, and unhelpful. Telling them that their feelings of grief are not important is textbook gaslighting. People are allowed to be very upset about genocide. It's a valid point of criticism. People can, in fact, dislike both major party options. There are several reasons to be skeptical and upset with Kamala as a candidate that have nothing to do with Trump. Do better. Vote shaming looks bad on anyone who tries to sport it. People looking at politics with a black or white mentality never works very well. ATRL isn't the best place for your post because most users will pretend to not get it. 4

In the case of this election, not voting for Kamala is voting for the repression of women's rights, LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive rights, immigrant rights, etc. You can do better as well, and not shame people who know their OWN RIGHTS ARE AT RISK if Trump gets in. The same people saying who they won't vote for Kamala will have absolutely 0 right to complain, and in fact be the to blame, if Trump wins and strips all their rights. 4 3 3

Would you look in the faces of Palestinian Americans - whose families have been wiped off the face of the earth and who wake up every day to new massacres and images of butchered bodies of their people - and tell them "YOU ARE TO BLAME IF TRUMP WINS! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN! YOU DESERVE THIS!" for refusing to vote for the same woman that is currently sending weapons to Israel and pledged unwavering commitment to Israel's right of self-defense (= continuing the genocide)? Are all these related to her AI manipulated images? I don't get it The Republican nominee for Vice President has made disparaging comments referring to Harris and other Democratic women as "childless cat ladies." Taylor Swift is well-known for her love of her cats and has been the target of plenty of the weird misogyny that goes into judging a person for being "childless." Another notable factor is that some Republicans see Harris as being less valuable and worthy as a woman because she has no biological children. She has step-children, but to some true weirdos, she qualifies as "childless" and that's a bad thing to them. 5 2 1

The double standards you have for Taylor is so disgusting, hold every celebrity to the same standard instead of always singling out Taylor because you hate her so much Trust me, you are not the morally superior being you think you are 4

You are more than allowed to want to vote for Kamala. However, you are besmirching people who have more complex feelings about the election for which there are very legitimate reasons to not apply black and white thinking. Also, people are allowed to complain about the president in any scenario. The president works for us. There are a lot of people who voted for Biden and are upset with his current performance. Would it be fair for them to the be told they should have voted for Trump if they're complaining about Biden? If you're going to say "no", then try applying that same nuance here. 2

There's nothing complex about a savage theological war. Israel and Palestine will continue fighting for another century. Our rights TODAY are at risk and we have no control over Hamas or Bibi so why would anyone base their vote on a conflict that neither side wants to resolve 2 2

Quote people who have more complex feelings about the election As for your latter point, OUR tax dollars are funding Bibi's genocide of the Palestinian people while our own people die from not having healthcare. People are allowed to feel a way about that. If that offends you, then maybe you should go sit in an echo chamber (might I suggest the r/thedavidpakmanshow?). 1

Mezik Posted September 11 Posted September 11 Either way I'm proud of Taylor Swift, because no matter what she does she won't win. Stays silent? Horrible and must be a MAGA. Endorses Kamala? Wrongfully called a genocide enabler (because voting Kamala does not mean you support genocide). I hope she influences tons of people to vote against Trump and ensure Trump doesn't win the presidency. 7

ATRL Moderator MissedTheTrain Posted September 11 ATRL Moderator Posted September 11 ddd at this thread showing that nothing will ever be enough for some people. So happy she spoke up. The coverage of it has been crazy....will it actually translate into more votes for Kamala? We shall see. I like that she didn't just tell people who to vote for (mainly because I think it's utterly ridiculous for people to wait for a pop star to weigh in before they make their own decision), but shared her reasoning and cited some of the actual issues. She's always worded these statements really well. 11 3

It's useful for when I actually have to talk to the demons - apparently I'm good at "prompt engineering" when I'm not busy insulting the bot. But also, I think it's really important to be super clear and factual about things like this when someone asks a genuine question. It's important to call the Republican candidates and their supporters what they are: weird as all ****. 4
