What I just don't get is what they spent all that budget on? 190 million is understandable in heavily CGI-reliant movies like Marvel or animated ones but in this one? They spent all that money and for what? :deadbanana:

50 million for Gaga Joaquin and Todd

Another 50+ for re shoots

I actually don't even think this will outgross Evita when adjusted for inflation. Which was a historical musical about a politician from Argentina lmao.

It needs an ~1.75x multiplier to even cross 200M and judging by that Sunday freefall.. :rip:

The monsters don't want to admit it but while katy drags were by stans only, this movie is being dragged by the GP. Gaga's brand will be actually hurt by this

I don't think pointing out that Katy's comeback lacked the mainstream relevance to be dragged by the GP is really doing you any favours here :rip:

You're right it's much better to be in the most hated movie on the year.

I'd rather be the team that lost the Super Bowl than the one that flunked out of the minor leagues

Set pieces cost a lot. They built a lot of sets, had a lot of big props, shot on location (a full NYC courthouse, abandoned prison that was retorifttted, shutting down an entire LA street to film a chase scene). Movies cost a lot of money regardless of whether you're shooting on location or not. Actors salaries probably ranged around 70m alone. They shot on Imax.

Seems like i'm not the only one wondering where those 190M went.:

Folie à Deux doesn't have big action set pieces. It doesn't have jaw-dropping effects. It's true that Phoenix and Gaga don't work for free, but neither of them is a film-industry megastar. And it's true that there are song and dance numbers, but these pay tribute to old musicals and TV specials, so they're not especially lavish. A detailed breakdown of where all the money went would be much more gripping to read than the film's screenplay.

It just doesn't add up, specially when the previous movie costed like $65M.

ok, an actual colossal flop :toofunny2:

The movie categorically did not need to cost 200M dollars. If they had reigned the budget in a little bit the conversation might be different, say opening 114M on a 120M budget, but 200M is absurd.

so it would be in close competition with Renaissance for most frontloaded opening day this decade (for a $20 mil+ OW).

Renaissance 53.5% OW from Friday

20/$37 million would be 54.1%

20/$38 million would be 52.6%

It was 53.8 percent.

She did it! :gaycat1:
