tiagol88 Posted September 10 Posted September 10 All those users saying this would surpass Deadpool to become the highest rated R Movie ever looking like fools now. 1 1
Broken Posted September 10 Posted September 10 If it collapses like The Marvels or Aquabomb... Captain Marvel ($1.13B) -> Captain Marvel 2 ($206M) Aquaman ($1.15B) -> Aquaman 2 ($434M) DC stans better start praying for The Batman 2 and Gunn's Superman 3
bjorn Posted September 10 Posted September 10 I'll definitely not be purchasing any tickets for this bomb. I'll just wait until it comes on my special website for streaming 13

Sexyzinger Posted September 11 Posted September 11 Comparing it to The Flash and The Marvels already?!

All of the combined efforts, time, money, and reputations on a high profile film do not aim to break even. Even making just a little bit over break even is a failure.
Sexyzinger Posted September 11 Posted September 11 Add this on top of the bad press with Joaquin irresponsibly costing a set millions of dollars backing out last minute on a queer-centric film. Gaga on the phone with her agent asking now why is she in this: 3
Gossip_Boy Posted September 11 Posted September 11 Wasn't this projected to open between 120M-140M like two weeks ago? I'm getting heavy The Flash flashbacks from this. We'll see how the audience reception is going to be but things aren't looking promising on that front either given the general sentiment out of Venice seems to be people who loved the first movie are going to dislike this one. 1

Honestly Fu"k the critics... why not Release it directly in theatres and let the audience decide. With mixed reviews, this kind of response is a bit panicking. They premiere movies at awards festival to get the awards momentum going. Which can backfire if they reviews out of the festivals aren't good. The first was a heralded as a critical bomb and the media was running with this movie theater shooting narrative and it ended up smashing. I doubt this will out perform it but let's just say many want to see Todd Philips fail. This is absolutely NOT true. The first one won the Golden Lion at Venice and based on reviews from there, it debuted at 88% on RT. It only fell on RT after the general critics closer to release reviewed it. This one is already debuting at 60% on RT after Venice, so will very likely go lower closer to release. 1

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. It has a 62% on RT right now, and could rise once the more comic book adjacent and normie bloggers start adding their tomatoes. 1 2 2

Musicals rarely succeed at box office these days with a few exceptions. Besides, I don't know about you guys, but I didn't think with how the way the first Joker ended, that it needed a sequel so I was initially surprised to hear the news about this one being in development. Nevertheless, I'll be going to see this! I can see this being big in its first few weeks, but unlike the first Joker, after Halloween, Deux is very likely to lose all steam and fall out. It's also important to note that it will probably make back its budget AND end up as one of the biggest musicals of all time. It will be spun as an underperformance but I don't see a movie experiencing that large a decrease that it fails to gross more than $400 million, especially considering the first one's reviews sucked as well.

Not saying it won't flop but I'm reminding you guys that the same people saying this about pre-sales for Joker 2 said this about the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: "Way worse than Ant-Man 3" but ended up opening better than Ant-Man 3. And ended up with $110+ million in its first weekend and almost a billion overall.
