Crank_It_Up Posted September 10 Posted September 10 To be fair, I think the second it was announced that it would be a musical, we all expected it to be less successful than the first. Musicals rarely succeed at box office these days with a few exceptions. Besides, I don't know about you guys, but I didn't think with how the way the first Joker ended, that it needed a sequel so I was initially surprised to hear the news about this one being in development. Nevertheless, I'll be going to see this! I can see this being big in its first few weeks, but unlike the first Joker, after Halloween, Deux is very likely to lose all steam and fall out.
Domination Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Everything about this movies reception so far is mimicking the first so I'll wait for actual numbers. The first was a heralded as a critical bomb and the media was running with this movie theater shooting narrative and it ended up smashing. I doubt this will out perform it but let's just say many want to see Todd Philips fail.
Tovitov Posted September 10 Posted September 10 The way Im gonna have to see this nonsense movie and drag all my friends and family with me to help the box office. Todd Phillips when I catch you, Gaga's the only saving grace and you edited her out
YR. Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Quote It was just a few weeks ago that "Joker: Folie a Deux" was practically sealed for a $100M opening in October, but these days reviews matter, especially for a film such as this one, and the film's Venice reception was just not good. Former theatrical exhibitor Empire City is now sounding the alarm on 'Folie a Deux.' Not only is its $100M opening in "serious jeopardy," but it might very well go "a lot lower" in the coming days and weeks. They're not ready to bet that it will reach "The Marvels/Flash territory," but a warning is now justified. The film is three weeks aways from release, and the buzz has definitely been dwindling. Last week, 'Folie a Deux' premiered at Venice where it got panned by critics. It doesn't help that the film is an R-rated musical, which was already a tough sell to begin with, especially for fans of the grittier 2019 original. https://www.worldofreel.com/blog/2024/9/9/joker-folie-a-deux-box-office-projections-keep-falling 2 2
YR. Posted September 10 Posted September 10 This Empire City guy is legit and always right about box office. He sucks but he's reliable

Erotic Posted September 10 Posted September 10 It's over for Gaga! Hollywood's most unwelcome! How will she ever recover? 8
SmittenCake Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Meh. Gaga's acting is getting praised so she wins no matter what. 4
Rocket Posted September 10 Posted September 10 (edited) Coming for Cats opening weekend numbers. Very shaky. I'm worried. Edited September 10 by Rocket 5
Hexchromatica Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Male director and male lead but let's pin the failure on a woman
Sugar-Rush Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Why do we need two threads about this? Anyway very modest numbers. Very demure.

Absolutely nobody on earth predicted Avengers: End game to flop not a single soul. I've had no interest in seeing this movie ever since it was announced as a musical, but what matters is WOM from audiences. Some movies hit with audiences while bombing with critics and then become hits. Some hit with both (Top gun maverick, Barbie, Oppenheimer). 1

dumbsparce Posted September 10 Posted September 10 No one is here for pretentious movies and actors that take themselves way too seriously
XDNA Posted September 10 Posted September 10 The director deleted a lot of Gaga's scenes or shortened them.
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted September 10 Posted September 10 It's okay, Gaga can distract herself with her global #1 song on Spotify and LG7 lead single. 2 1
4th Time Around Posted September 10 Posted September 10 (edited) Why the title as if this is Gaga's film? She did not direct the movie, she is not the lead character and critics praised her acting performance and complained she was under utilized. She will remain totally unscathed regardless of what happens with the movie Edited September 10 by 4th Time Around
