babycomeround Posted September 18 Posted September 18 The promotion of the film has been a mess. As someone who actively keeps up to date with pop culture, I didn't even know the film is out. Nobody can blame Gaga for that. 1 3

Also Joker is the most successful anti-hero in modern movies, this opening is very disappointing. If they were expecting much, they shouldn't have cast Lady Gaga and done a musical that appealed to the bro comic book audience that hates anything that has women in it (look what happened to Star Wars).
dumbsparce Posted September 18 Posted September 18 I can't with the delusions and the finger pointing. Gaga not being featured as much as expected will actually help the numbers. The bros ain't here for neither a musical nor a female lead. Little monsters would watch regardless of Gaga's screen time. 3
Suspendedintheair Posted September 18 Posted September 18 6 hours ago, LOTF said: Why would little monsters complain about this movie being a musical? If there's anybody who should appreciate the format is you! You're just in it for the numbers and stamp of approval from the establishment smh Most of them yeah. But as a lifelong DC fan and teen LM this was a match made in heaven... allegedly...
Arrows Posted September 18 Posted September 18 I was just at the movies and the trailer played, followed by someone behind me saying "that looks really bad" 10 1
KatyPrismSpirit Posted September 18 Posted September 18 Against a $200M budget? Isn't that considered a massive box-office bomb? Hope it's not true and the movie is a success, but considering the lukewarm reception so far, I'm doubtful. I will definitely watch it in the cinema thooo

You're not entirely wrong but frankly, 40 is proving to be quite young for acting - most actresses now are getting their best roles in their 40s and beyond. The fact is, being an ingenue in film doesn't really equate to substantial roles or long careers. Jessica chastain for example was 33 when she broke-through. My main irk is that Gaga's been spacing out roles; so far, her approach has been to go extremely method for every performance and this isn't really necessary. She can sign onto a film and spend 2 months filming. it doesn't have to be a 6 month ordeal of getting into character.... Gaga will probably have 5-7 films total by the time she's nearing 50 and for someone whose main career is oriented toward music, this is fine. A concise but hopefully rich and diverse filmography.

People only need a few days of awareness to decide if they're going to partake or consume in something....
Sapphire Posted September 19 Posted September 19 gaga impact! still a global box office smash during the lockdown years
CosTaSsSs Posted September 19 Posted September 19 I'm sorry but that was expected! This is what happens when a director is greedy and doesn't accept that a movie doesn't require a sequel.
Shinning Posted September 19 Posted September 19 I fear for her career if her solo lead single pulls a Stupid love. I guess she'll be calling Taylor or Chappel for a collab if that happens. 1 4
insomniac Posted September 19 Posted September 19 I'm really excited to see this actually. But also, think about the original audience for the Joker. Would they be the people to flock and see a musical? It seems like a mismatch that this was a musical from the start. 1

Ricardo1993 Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Not gonna lie my excitement for this film is at zero. I remember when it was announced she would play Harley Quinn and I immediately rolled my eyes like "Oh god not another Harley Quinn iteration" but then my excitement skyrocketed when they started filming. There were so many epic shots of her truly bringing the character to life only for those scenes to be cut! So much potential and yet Toad Phillips still fumbled the bag. I'm still going to see the film since I got pre-tickets but man its crazy how a year ago I was so sure this would be her biggest film of her career and now its looking like it'll be another HOG situation. Personally, I feel like Gaga as "Poison Ivy" would've been a more fascinating character. She obviously wouldn't play the same Poison Ivy in the comics but a more human version of Poison Ivy would've been great. Anyway at the end of the day, Gaga currently has a hit single and whether LG7 is a hit or not, as long as the song is good then I'm more than satisfied. 1
terrijoe Posted September 19 Posted September 19 So is Gaga really dating a looney genocide loving Zionist with Hollywood connections that allegedly get her roles? I think that's why ppl are not gonna watch. I love her but I'm taken back bc of that story.
