Sugden Posted September 9 Posted September 9 "Given how much mileage Taylor Swift got in the past out of her decision to speak out on politics, the idea that she will remain silent would seem to make her past speaking out, at a more convenient moment, appear cynical. It'd be regrettable if her engagement with the world of politics were just another of her eras, and one from which she were willing to move on." Swift let Donald Trump's use of A.I.-generated images falsely suggesting she endorsed him go by unremarked-upon; unusually willing to leverage high-profile friendships to show different sides of her, she's chilling at the U.S. Open with Brittany Mahomes, whom Trump has thanked for her support. STMG23 Posted September 9 Posted September 9 (edited) I'd be ALIVE if she'd endorse Harris Edited September 9 by STMG23
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted September 9 Posted September 9 I am annoyed at her for this as well but I am trying to be cognizant that she does have to worry about the safety of her fans on the tour in regards to speaking out about politics. However nonetheless I do think that this particular matter is so important that she needs to stand on the right side of history here and use her voice for good because the alternative option is just too hideous to bare. She is way too big and influential at this point to be caring about appeasing everyone and both sides anymore. There is more to life than profits and being likable to everyone. You will never please everyone. 7
Popular Post KatyPrismSpirit Posted September 9 Popular Post Posted September 9 Love Taylor but she and her fans keep gaslighting the audience that she is rightfully void of speaking out about political issues because of safety concerns. There are loads of other artist who talk about politics who are on tour. Of course, not speaking up about major political or social issues is your civil right, but Variety is only addressing the fact that her massive platform is basically going to waste in times when it's needed the most. And it IS funny how Taylor only felt comfortable to discuss politics and make it the focus point of her era when she felt like her career was "on a decline" during Lover. Now it's crickets. But oh well, on Tortured Poets she herself even admitted that Joe Alwyns integrity made her feel small. It makes perfect sense. 37 1
Sazare Posted September 9 Posted September 9 (edited) Can't be bothered to read the article right now but surely this is stupid, right? Of course she's going to endorse Harris eventually, not sure why it has to be now. I don't think there are any voter registration deadlines coming up for at least a few more weeks. byzantium Posted September 9 Posted September 9 You don't want her to say anything now. You want her to say something a month from now. 1 1
Popular Post TayDuaStan Posted September 9 Popular Post Posted September 9 That random Charli drag "A statement from her (Taylor) would likely make Charli XCX's "kamala IS brat" tweet look like a random Reddit comment" 16
Popular Post bad guy Posted September 9 Popular Post Posted September 9 I'm so over how our celebrity-obsessed culture has bled into politics. If you need Taylor Swift of all people to tell you who to vote for you're a ******* idiot who probably shouldn't be voting in the first place. 23 3 1 3
Into The Void Posted September 9 Posted September 9 It's not like Taylor is the only celebrity to not have endorsed a candidate but I guess when ur the biggest name it comes with these expectations that other celebs don't have.
Taylena Posted September 9 Posted September 9 I just don't get why everyone's acting like Brittany Mahomes is a huge Trump supporter who agrees and stands by everything he does, when all she apparently did was like an Instagram post.
piotrert Posted September 9 Posted September 9 american politics a.d. 2024 - kamala is brat, speculation whether beyonce will show up on dnc convention, begging taylor for endorsement. yeah, america is cooked. god speed to yall. in 15 years you will get someone who is 100 times worse than trump 1

Yeah saying something as simple as "don't use AI images of me that say Vote Trump" isn't exactly polarizing either so there's no excuse 3
Popular Post Vegvisir Posted September 9 Popular Post Posted September 9 I have to laugh at all the morality gymnastics people are doing to justify Taylor's association with a rich and powerful Trump supporter. Trump/MAGA are not just your regular ol' conservatives - we passed that junction on January 6th 2021. They are a party and a political movement dead set on destroying democracy, dissolving the american government system as we know it and devolving the country into a army recruit-generating, christian hellhole. It's one thing to have a dad who's sucked into the MAGA cult. It's another to have a casual friend who backs Trump. And it's a whole other f*cking sh*t show when you're a billionaire who is casually friends with another billionaire Trump supporter who despite all her wealth and success cannot see what her politics does to anyone not white, male and/or rich. Every second of Taylor's life is a planned media event, and her continued association with Brittany Mahomes just shows that she either doesn't care or agrees with her politics. 14 3

suburbannature Posted September 9 Posted September 9 She's too worried about potentially jeopardizing her place on top by isolating her soccer mom Trump-voting fan base. And to make matters worse, she will undoubtedly spin these urges into yet another victim-narrative-for-profit. 11 3
Bussea Posted September 9 Posted September 9 (edited) It's so funny, because when she was political during the Lover era yall told her to stfu and screamed about how performative she was but now that she's staying silent and speaking when SHE wants to, her detractors are trying to gaslight us and make up scenarios about how she's aFraId tO lOse hEr FaNBaSe as if she's not called trump out MULTIPLE times and has been a vocal liberal/democrat. I genuinely just feel like regardless of what Taylor does people will still run with their own false narratives so they can keep talking about this woman because she genuinely just lives rent free in their head. if there IS a point in any of this discourse it's always going to be drowned out by the weird "I hate Taylor so let me see how I can make this about her" energy. MP3 Posted September 9 Posted September 9 If she speaks she will wait for the right moment Stop the hysteria it's getting a bit pathetic 1

Nah... it's a massive red flag if someone is power and money hungry enough to achieve billionaire status in their 30s, but has zero interest in using their wealth, connections and influence to better the lives of others. Speaking out against Trump/MAGA is not an endorsement, it's a denouncement of fascism. The fact that people think Taylor is just another ordinary American proves how most people have zero concept of how INSANE it is for one person to have that much money. 9 2
CherieMoon Posted September 9 Posted September 9 I don't think she has to endorse anyone atp, is not her responsibility or obligation to educate people about anything. However, associating herself with MAGA supporters, letting Trump use AI to implicate she's endorsing him, that's just another thing and her choice. 1
jacklovesyou1 Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Sorry if this get's took the wrong way i'm not american but why do some americans beg for celebrities to speak out about politics wouldn't that cause them to lose fans .. i'm not on about war and children dying etc but would her saying she's vote for a certain someone makes the much difference??? it reminds me of early 2010's and someone was anti gay marriage and then born this way came out and they changed their minds and decided to vote for it in the future because of it idgi 1
