Slap Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Yeah this isn't a good look and I would genuinely be shocked if she isn't ambivalent about the dangers of another Trump presidency, I doubt she supports his social ideology but he certainly is beneficial to her as an incredibly rich individual. She embodies a lot of the facets of late stage white feminism with the moral outrage on issues that don't suit her during her career such as the significant misogyny she has faced, and an expectation to never be called out for when she is the one with the power making decisions that aren't so great and kicking the ladder down behind her. Feel sorry for my oppression but don't call me out for when I don't care about the oppression of others. But most celebrities are narcissistic and it makes sense they only care about themselves, their fans enable this dynamic and that's the point of American celebrity anyway. The fact people are like oh no it's so difficult for her to not associate with or hug people like this because it's mildly inconvenient or awkward fails to recognize the power this woman clearly holds and treats her like she's not a grown woman who is clearly capable of walking away from situations and people she doesn't like to approve of (and putting them on blast in her music to great success). compare this to somebody from a minority without the money and power she has and how genuinely terrified they are of what another Trump presidency could mean for them. It's a lot worse than a slightly awkward interaction or her husband's performance in sport ball. I think the ideal situation is that people stop caring what celebrity's political views are and vote for themselves. Celebrities are all extremely narcissistic and wealthy and most wealthy people support candidates who reroute precious funds for healthcare and social security into massive tax breaks for themselves as well as maintaining the status quo of a very unequal society designed to allow people with money the ability to buy their way out of every problem. Bad PR for private jets and gouging your fans with ticket prices, just throw some money at your crew for a big heartwarming story. They are going to vote for themselves of course. The problem isn't them it's society listening to people who clearly only care about themselves and expecting them to care about others or to guide society to a better future for the collective good. if she was a regular person sure her ambivalence wouldn't really be a big deal, couple it with her money, power and celebrity and it actually is. Those things come with moral dilemmas and responsibilities and while we are accepting of most people shirking them or paying their way out of them, it's probably worth admitting that she is the most powerful woman in the world right now, she's pretty capable of managing her optics and choosing who she associates with. She's not a regular person, like, at all, so suggesting it's too much to expect her to choose her company more carefully (if it indeed matters to her) is just enabling and infantilizing a grown, very powerful woman.
Peak Now Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Has someone mentioned "damage control"? If not, damage control, thank me later OTHs
OrgVisual Posted September 9 Posted September 9 On one hand, it's kinda stupid to drag someone for who they are hanging out. On the other hand, Swifties have done much worse to other artists in the psst, so
ChooseyLover Posted September 9 Posted September 9 (edited) And I thought all this time I was a Taylor detractor. Turns out I'm not cause everyone enraged by this is so ridiculous and it's giving second fanbase. And all this for a Kamala endorsement who is like the least evil out of the two. And everybody knows it's very likely she'll publicly support her at some time anyway. Edited September 9 by ChooseyLover 3
TouchinFree Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Yes please abandon her so she can go back to making amazing music again and I can go back to listening to her in peace. Take variant memos with you too 1
jesus del rey Posted September 9 Posted September 9 It is so interesting for me to see how Americans DEMAND their celebrities for political opinions. I am baffled to see that how most people can not think for themselves and require people who have nothing to do with politics to tell them who to vote and what to think. I guess the American education system really failed y'all. Who T.S. associates herself with is her business, but nevertheless, it always looked suspicious to me that she pandered to the LGBTQ+ community when she needed us and she dropped us the second she did not need us. Everything about T.S. seems so calculated that I have no idea who she is, and what she stands for (or whether she stands for anything that is not profit). 13 4
alexrex Posted September 9 Posted September 9 With this PR girl, you don't know where her morals are at this point. Everything is fiction with her. 1 4
Bloodflowers. Posted September 9 Posted September 9 This is just weird behaviour, do y'all have nothing going on with your life than analyize who Taylor Swift (somebody you have never spoken with and never will) hangs out with during random sports events (that you don't watch) Let's act serious for a second 5

I've always said that as much as I love her as an artist, I just can't get into her as a person, and I stand by that. When she tries to show concern about anything outside her bubble it never comes off as genuine because you can tell her heart is simply not in it, she really does not care about anything that doesn't affect her, and it's sad. I mean, on one hand it's the standard approach of a privileged famous person, what baffles me is that the person she portrays in her music seems distant (a lot more sensitive) from this one we see everyday. It's coz she is a mega narcissist. Everything and everyone that isn't her, is just an object/chess piece intended to maximise her popularity, visibility and wealth. Edited September 9 by katara 6
Saintlor Posted September 9 Posted September 9 (edited) This isn't what you think it is. If someone is friends with a Hitler supporter and is also friends with a left wing activist, it doesn't negate the fact they're willing to overlook the Hitler supporter's beliefs No need to be offended or desperate to prove otherwise that Taylor doesn't care about her LGBTQ and POC fans and people in general— she's welcome to prove otherwise herself but doesn't want to. Of course she would rather spend her time denying dating rumours or denying being a lesbian than dispelling trump rumours. She's more disgusted by the idea of someone thinking she could be into women than she is disgusted by the idea of people thinking she supports Trump Edited September 9 by Saintlor 4 10 7
Mikeymoonshine Posted September 9 Posted September 9 The twitter swifties being more reasonable than the ones on here is wild. You should be criticising your fave when they are objectively being shitty. Imagine if all of our faves came out in support of Palestinians instead of rubbing shoulders with Trump supporters and other rich ghouls. Wouldn't that be better? 3 6
CBC Posted September 9 Posted September 9 maybe that guy with a kkk cloak won't be kicked out of her concert next time
Starfish Posted September 9 Posted September 9 That user who kept making threads about her imminent downfall must be experiencing several climaxes right now.
modeblock Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Taylor, love your music girl, but you need to kinda whip into shape regarding these optics or stop pretending to be an activist - it's really annoying to be such a hypocrite when you say you hate them so much. 1
Into The Void Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Sometimes people have to friendly with the opposing side. If ur boss was a MAGA would you tell them to **** off? I mean we live in a society where you will interact with both types of voters and you have to be cordial with them. People can put politics aside for real life. 1 2

A normal person needing to keep their beliefs quiet to pay their bills is completely not the same thing.... Taylor is the CEO, a billionaire, powerful, connected... she doesn't need to do anything or be friendly with anyone she doesn't want to 7 1
