Usher is R&B. Most of his set was R&B songs. Rihanna is Pop urban. Most of her set was urban songs. Dr Dre and friends made sense due to the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. The rest of the people listed have crossover appeal. The issue here is Kendrick and Usher only performed/performing due to viral moments. Would they have performed other wise? No. 1 3

dumbsparce Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Ehhh I don't like how holier than thou he is but at least he'll put on a show for sure. 1

Usher was always on the list, and the people had been anticipating when he was actually going to do it. How TF did he book the super bowl off a viral moment and this acting like Kendrick Lamar was an underground rapper is the biggest piece of revisionist history I've ever seen in real time. Nobody cares about crossover appeal. I can name several SB performers who had none but that doesn't matter. This the same forum who doesn't know who The Who is talking about who should be Superbowl performers. Y'all are and always have been dangerously out of touch with anything that isn't a Pop girl. 10 1
Wicked Posted September 8 Posted September 8 This ******* forum thinks Travis Scott is a nobody rapper, I wouldn't be surprised if Travis headlined the SB before a lot of the names y'all in here dropping 3

Jay Z hired him because of a viral moment, just like Kendrick apparently. When was the last time Usher had a hit to qualify him for the SB? He probably was on the list, but he wouldn't have gotten it without Jay Z. Lets not forget that Usher's career was practically dead before he went viral back in what 2022/2023? A viral moment literally saved his career as a performer. Edited September 8 by El Nino

Then why have their halftime shows out viewed Usher's? 1

It's great that people and fans want to watch again later and fans from other parts of the world want to tune in after the fact, but what really matters is that nobody turned off the TV when it happened and it held the attention of over 129 million people… If Usher caused a network loss, then you would have an argument, but he didn't… 3

I don't disagree with your point but to pretend Usher is pop and JLO, Rihanna don't have a great amount of hip hop and r&b in their catalog is... Not sure why people want Miley right now. She has more than enough time after cementing her legacy with Flowers. I cringed when the thread about Miley or Harry was the top 2. No. Not yet. They need more time. I think after Kendrick we will see a pop and rock artist the next couple of years.

Reverie Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I would rewatch the Usher halftime but I'd currently rather just wait to see him perform live tomorrow as he goes around making every stop a mini residency! So grateful that I get to watch real performers on and off the screen #ThankYouRocNation 1 1

Seems like only his fans and some cross watchers cared. The performance did nothing for Usher's album, which tanked pretty bad.

Either only his fans cared so he has 129 million fans (which is odd since his album tanked) or he had a lot of crossover interest from people that grew up with his iconic hits from the 90s and 00s. Truth is, Usher was a legacy star just like Justin (whose following album flopped to the pits) when he did the halftime but I don't see you crying about that. I wonder why. Also, reducing Kendrick Lamar of all people, one of the most acclaimed, respected and popular rappers of the past decade to his beef with Drake is so short sighted and insulting. You need to examine your feelings. Edited September 8 by Jay07 4

His last album sold more than ESV with no Flowers/hit in it. He dominated rap this year… please take a seat 2
IBeMe Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Miley, imo, still needs one more solid ERA before she can headline. One viral smash sporadically isn't enough to merit the coveted half time show imo. Harry is still too early in his solo career. He has name recognition, plenty of hits but for some reason still does not feel like he would merit the half time show just yet. Kendrick is a great choice for this year. next year should maybe be Justin Bieber (as controversial as that opinion may be). He has the catalog, is kind of an icon and has been consistently successful. Pink would also be a good choice (even tho I can't stand her after she defended genocide yesterday) or perhaps another band. Maybe a legends rock band medley would be a good idea to bid farewell to an aging generation of artists who will likely never touch the stage if not together for a farewell to the genre in general.
getBusy Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Some of y'all think the Superbowl is like an event only allowed to certain artists based on Billboard stats and Youtube views Newsflash: Jay Z and the NFL give zero fucks about both things. 1

I like all the kii going on and Kendrick deserves it himself, but so does Miley, this is just a crazy ass take. she's done more than enough of proving with her career, she literally has a song that defines American patriotism, it's weird to think she wouldn't be enough to perform at the half time of the most American sport that is football. she'll get her chance soon. 2
on the line Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Well that'll be a skip for me. Honesty unsure if I've ever heard any of his songs. 3 1 1
Doctor Dick Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Congrats Kendrick although I would love if Eminem did a solo one someday.
Lady Claire Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I really don't know why people were expecting Miley when she already said that she has no interest on playing huge concerts again. Imagine the HALFTIME SHOW I believe they probably asked her if she was interested but obviously her answer was no. As of Kendrick, whatever for me. I don't care for male artists. Rihanna was the last one i cared about and i'll only care again when another female does it 1 1
