Was Rihanna the weakest MPG in terms of artistry?

The question says it all. I feel that all other main pop girls were acclaimed for their artistry. Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Madonna, Gaga, etc.

I feel that she only has an edge against Katy.  What do you think?

In terms of lack of artistry it goes…

1) Britney

2) Katy

3) Selena G

But Britney is renowned for ushering in a new era of pop with her debut.

It could be argued she was simply the vessel for this.  Even though the execution is all her

Rihanna felt like a trendsetter and overall ahead of the curve a few times in her music career, but it's always hard to say how much of that was her vision or her team's vision.

You mean an album that's nothing but a SZA wannabe? It took Rihanna 8 albums to finally have a quality one

For some reason atrl doesn't seem to get this but artistry goes way beyond writing.

Britney was able to it embody a character in her performances and videos in a way most other MPGs have never done. Not just embody but also create, even in her very first video she created the iconic school girl look.

And Britney has Blackout. Plus, she was a good dancer at one point. Rihanna has exceptional music videos, and was ahead or right on trend. She also has writing credits on all songs on ANTI minus the cover of Tame Impala's song. Katy writes her own music, let's give her that (of questionable quality but still).

The answer is Selena. :)

Exactly like what Britney lacked in other areas she made up for it with her performances at least pre-Kevin Federline

People don't know what defines an artists artistry anymore. Also, a lot of people who listen and look at Rihanna are narrow minded.

Rihanna's artistry comes from her ability to emote and to be a chameleon. She is the one artist since Madonna, that has been able to adapt to current musical trends effortlessly

and send the current musical trend into overdrive.

No one can sing Rihanna songs like Rihanna. Her voice and cadence is incredibly distinctive. You know a Rihanna song when you hear it and you can only hear Rihanna singing it.

Rihanna's rebellious nature as well as living her life in the public is a huge part of her artistry. She was able to take something so tragic and not make it her identity, but she understood it's just an aspect and she has the ability to control the narrative. Look at Katy Perry '143' and Lady Gaga 'ARTPOP'. Neither one of those women could and can change the narrative to something positive, Rihanna is the opposite.

Rihanna's artistry is not musical, visual, fashion, mogul, make-up, underwear, arts & crafts, lying about new music, etc. Her artistry is rooted and defined by how she emotes when she sings, the music itself and how she has become such a leader. Not just for women, but for any and everyone who has gone through a terrible time in the face of their loved ones or the public.

How is she a chameleon when she mimics Sia's voice in the songs Sia wrote for her?
