Joker: Folie à Deux Review Thread | RT: 63%, MC: 54

Even though the first Joker currently has a 60% on RT and a 59 on Metacritic, it had much stronger reviews after debuting at Venice. It's possible that the scores could rise over the month, but it's even likelier that they'll drop.

Gaga just needs that huge box office and Globes to come through and give her win to secure her Oscar nomination.

2 panned films in a row is harsh for gaga, no matter how many "she was ackchually good in it!!!" reviews

the gp will start associating her with ass films and she will not generate as much hype thus making it harder for directors to cast her

How will the GP associate her with ass films when all they'll be thinking about while leaving the theater is going to be that she was actually good?

this post makes no sense..

there's a reason why gaga is getting paid 10M for JFAD, even tho she only starred in 2 movies as a lead actress.. she generates HYPE.

You can't spell LEGEND without LEE. Gaga will always be as fresh as a stone fire grilled Margherita Pizza served in the upper west side at Joanne Trattoria's.

the only thing that matters is good reviews from audience , huge box office gross atleast 5 times the budget or more and oscar noms.. It has a shot at all of those. Somehow she always wins. They CANT stand it.

Why do critics hate DC so much :deadbanana4:. I can understand the collective hate for Marvel but at least they don't do McDonald's type content and try to push the envelope a little bit.

I both agree and disagree with this. Continual mediocrity isn't exactly an upsell to major Hollywood directors, no. But I think like many have pointed out in this thread above, separating the components of a movie by looking at the directing, the writing and the acting, it doesn't allow using that outlook to be so cut and dry. In the grand scheme of things, when a movie has negative reviews, casting directors might not look into the ins and outs of how good one actors performance is in it, but it still does help her case that she's (at this point) the highest praised thing about this film so far. And it's also important to note that for most actors, a dud movie isn't the end of their career. It maybe takes a couple of movies to get to another high again but a bad film Is rarely the nail in an actors coffin.

Gaga has the luxury of signing up to a project, watching it fail, and walking away into another almost separate career while she's not acting. This obviously won't be her last movie, but if she and her team were turned off by the fact it's not critically acclaimed she can walk away from acting and she still has a successful career in music. She's only been in 3 films in a 6 year span. I'd say she's done a decent job in that span getting a musical win at the Oscars and a Best Actress nom. Some of out favourite actresses who have been household names for years only have a handful of nominations themselves.

Notice how even the panning-est reviews are talking about how Todd Phillips "wasted Gaga" and praised her performance...
