Did Coldplay fall off quality wise?

I feel like they went from one of the most respected bands to dropping the same uninspired generic music over and over again, what do you think?

I have just heard their new song and well yeah, it confirms my opinion.

Yes. The first half of their discography is filled with great albums, but lately…

They cheapened themselves by collabing with lesser artists like BTS, Selena Gomez, whoever those artists on WE PRAY are supposed to be.

Ironically I think their new single We Pray is something finally fresh. Their last few albums do kind of sound similar. It's definitely drop in quality but for some reason that actually brings them great deal of success.

I am talking about falling in love or whatever that song is called by the way, I thought it was their most recent one :skull:

We Pray came out last week. But yes Falling in Love is very generic and sounds like most songs on the previous album or two.

That last album of theirs was bad. I liked Everyday Life tho. Hopefully their next project is better

Absolutely. Their albums were pretty good up to Viva La Vida

Coldplay and Maroon 5 have pretty similar career trajectories imo. Great early catalogue but around the early 2010s they swapped in their artistic integrity for radio success and the music quality has suffered ever since

Yeah but especially after Everyday Life. That new song is bad too:

I know lalalalalalalalala :juanny:

Yes, the commercial pop bands all fell off drastically.

Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head are great albums. X&Y and Viva la Vida are okay. They started making boring safe music after that.

I need to visit their whole discography first to answer this question, but from what I've heard so far I can tell the quality decline.

feels like they've been in a creative rut for a while now but it's forgivable since first few albums are incredible :WAP:

They became very commercial post-Viva La Vida. That's not to say that their music has been bad ever since, but they lost some of that magic from their first few albums. Their music feels very formulaic now, like it's written specifically for the radio and touring. Ghost Stories is the one exception; that album is very reminiscent of early 2000s Coldplay.

This is their song "Ghost Story" from 2014. It feels like it could have been on one of their early albums or EPs. THIS is the Coldplay I need.

They did, twice.

Yeah, the BTS cash grab was… :doc:, but then I remember they made the masterpiece that is Coloratura on their latest album and know they still got it.

Their first 4 albums (plus Ghost Stories) are pure perfection. Then they started to become this "touring act" and turned into P!nk (big but mediocre shows with really bad radio music).

Yes, they tried it with Everyday Life but it's just not the same. I feel like they are making music for their confetti guns to pop off to... :rip:

Yes, they're moving like a band that knows they have cemented their place in music and all that's left to do is make money :rip:

Everyday Life is my favorite album from them, and that was only two albums ago. I think its by far their best work, but I think highly of nearly all of their projects. So I can't say that I do think they truly fell off. Music of the Spheres was the only miss for me, even if you include their albums post Viva. We Pray was excellent, so I hope they continue in that kind of direction for the other songs yet to be released.

They became more pop generic oriented that's for sure, but I think it's not necessarily a bad thing, they have a really good discography in general, epic songs, they just have 2 okay albums but the rest is memorable. Everything from Parachute to Mylo is classics, after that I see it as bonus for fans. AHFOD and MOTS are great touring albums, songs that hit hard in stadiums. One thing we can say about Coldplay is they never lost their melody senses

:bibliahh:don't get me wrong I really like Coldplay and I don't agree with the touring part but the Pink reference made me spilled my coffee
