do you see OR3 smashing?

i've been told that flop era, also known as GUTS, had been an utter underperformance and all signs are pointing to Olivia having a steady decline. with only 1 song hitting 1 billion streams (ouch!) compared to her older sister, SOUR, you'd think there's no coming back from it.

so color me shocked that such a let-down is being compared to peak/breakout eras. so maybe Rodrigo's 3rd era would see the Bizaardvark songstress to bounce back and have her next album still be a commercial success.

is her career doomed? has she been replaced?

If her next project is mediocre and other new IT girl in recent years put out better contents, then there won't be much room left for her, since they are all competing in the same market.

Depends on the music. Shes still very young so it just depends of if she can stay in sync with whatever the music climate will be when she releases next.

@Solaria do we think Interscope is gonna force Olivia to make her next album more digestible by the gp? aka no more spoken singing?

She can but we need a few things:

- Chappell Roan duet

- No purple aesthetic

- More mature topics than teen angst

- More pop sounds and less rock music

let's add

- don't wait too long in between eras

but on the topic of duets omg, her first collab would be so hyped i fear, and they should be smart/strategic with it. because imagine it fails,,... like the "who is your dream collab" questions were asked so much since her debut :deadbanana4:

I want her to tone down the 90s/00s pop-rock references. So American could be great indicator where to go for the next album.

Either way; her voice is amazing and her ballads are always crazy good.

a chappell collab only makes sense. chappell opened up for olivia for both the sour and guts tours. they have the same producer. they are best friends. and chappell also had a big break which places them on similar heights. i would be shocked if they didn't collab on either if their next albums

I like both her albums but I think it will do worse than Guts

She needa to ditch this tired rock sound. That was left in the early 2000s for a reason.

She should develop a new aesthetic and bag a big collab that would become an instant surefire hit. I think OR3 can smash if she plays her cards right.

GUTS being so rock was great as a means to improve her artistry but limited it's appeal (mainly internationally)....people have moved on. Sure, there were some ballads but they're all kinda forgettable besides maybe the grudge and for the most part it was marketed as rock/riot grrl-esque album. She has kinda lost sight of what made her popular in the first place which was relatable, heartbreak/love slow songs. In this case she's similar to Billie because that was also one of the reasons why I suspected HTE underperformed, if Olivia goes back to that sound I don't see how she can't make a comeback. Even Gracie Abrams is in the US Spotify top 100 right now with a ballad/slower song :matty:

No, but I do think she needs to change it up a bit. A third album in the same vein could be an underperformance. I don't know what she needs to do but the pop-rock early 2000s sound is getting boring. I love that sound for her but as with every artist including her idol Avril Lavigne a slight change in image and style will be needed. I don't think she needs to do too much as she's very popular but a little change-up won't be disastrous for her.

I think she'll do fine but she has to switch up her sound. I remember when vampire was announced people were excited cause the title implied a different direction so they didn't mind the purple aesthetic that much, but then the lead turned out to be another ballad so they quickly wrote her off for that and for the purple lol.

I think she tried too early in her career to make "traditions", like making her lead singles a ballad for example.

Yes! She needs to make mature rock music now that she's not angst teenager anymore!

let's not do tew much on the good sis vampire. without it, GUTS wouldn't have a hit. and at the moment, her only song that's doing 1m daily :suburban:

I think it could go any direction, but the most likely is "just fine." Maybe critical acclaim, maybe around as big as Guts. She could smash harder again if she put in the right work, or she could have less success but make progress artistically if she wants - she's in the rare position where she can sort of comfortably decide her own path.

Why wouldn't it? Only delusional stans would claim Olivia isn't smashing this era. GUTS is still hovering around the top 20 nearly a year later. She's on top of the world currently and will do fine as long as she continues to evolve and tinker with her sound.

I always imagined right after GUTS era started how this style of rock music will fit her perfect as she matures! Like this Top 20 hit from Sheryl Crow in 1998 that got her a bunch of Grammy noms, including Album of the Year nomination in 1999 :jonnycat:

Sheryl ended her ex Eric Clapton with this heartbreak anthem :clap3:

If Billie managed to get a smash album after 'Happier Than Ever'

If Sabrina managed to get a smash album after 4 flops

If Lady Gaga managed to get a smash album after 'ARTPOP'

Then I am sure OR3 will eat
