Maroon legacy Posted October 24 Posted October 24 This album is beautiful but it's one of the most depressing things I've ever heard. 3
psychodiva336 Posted October 24 Posted October 24 7 hours left for me. Can someone who already listened please tell me what they think about "I Believe In Magic"? I can't wait to hear that one 🥲

Europe Posted October 24 Posted October 24 I'd like to hear her thought process on all the different vocal production styles on Darwinism. Really cool and unique song and it's cool how it keeps changing is interesting.
Lady Claire Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Listening to it now and I Believe in Magic is soooo beautiful! I wasn't sold by the snippet but the full thing floored me 2
Lady Claire Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Her tone in Life of the Spider omg!!! She matured sooo much both lyrically and vocally I'm kinda overwhelmed by the album and don't even know where to start 2
perfectillusion204 Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Wowww this album is incredible. SO depressing though omg. I feel so sad she was going through those difficult times basically alone. Will definitely need more listens to figure out my favorites but I enjoyed every song! 4

I haven't heard the song yet, but simply judging by how you describe it and taking into account that darwinism is a theory of evolution... She's kind of a mastermind for this
Prismee Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Only Living Girl in LA omg the way she came in swinging with this 6 minutes masterpiece
Joesuxx Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Do we have a definitive rundown of which songs represent which decade?
Prismee Posted October 24 Posted October 24 i'm halfway through the album and i agree that the influences are very loose, if you go in expecting each song to sound exactly like each of those artist's signature sound you're gonna be disappointed. i kinda like it like this too because the sonic cohesiveness is mostly intact. 1

SimpleKindofLife Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Wow I didn't know I needed country/americana Halsey in my life until hearing Hometown
bestfiction Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Excited to listen to this. The impersonation photoshoots she did on social media were very cool. I've been impressed with her artistic choices since ICHLIWP

stevenisFADING Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Songs I enjoyed on initial listen: Ego Dog Years Letter to God (1974) Panic Attack The End I Never Loved You Darwinism Lonely Is the Muse Life of the Spider Lucky Letter to God (1998) The Great Impersonator I do need to go back to Only Living Girl In LA, Arsonist, and Hurt Feelings since I enjoyed parts but feel it needs more listens to be songs I'd hear on repeat. I do have to give high praise to the songs Dog Years, Panic Attack, Darwinism, and Life of the Spider. Great songs. Halsey continues to impress even after her magnum opus that is IICHLIWP.

I'm super excited and have loved all the singles/snippets we got An amazing album for those who appreciate music beyond what you'd listen to in a gay club. An especially amazing album if you prefer music that is more emotionally resonating. 7 1
mons†er Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Reviews have started to come in. CLASH: 90 Quote 'The Great Impersonator' is both deeply personal and sharply relevant to wider pop culture, quietly contributing to conversations being had by, and about, Chappell Roan, as well as those that have followed the death of Liam Payne. It's also an album that's harder to reduce down into one quick sentence, traipsing as it does through so many genres, moods and time periods. The only prevailing sense is that, if Halsey never chooses to make a full record again, she's made sure to say everything she needed to with this one. Kern Posted October 24 Posted October 24 My faves are: Dog Years, I Believe in Magic, Darwinism, Arsonist, LTG (1998)
Bryan Spears Posted October 24 Posted October 24 Marilyn being the last impersonation... Godley serves again 1
Europe Posted October 24 Posted October 24 (edited) I really love her voice on Life Of The Spider. It's so raw and I love how emotionally evocative the delivery stays all the way through, that is how you make a vulnerable song! I see this album in the same light as 143 and C,XoXo, there was perfectly good material on the album but the songs they pre-released for promotion were like the worst choices and they ruined everything. There was no reason to put out Ego / Muse so early. I know she had her "personal reasons" for releasing the end first but that also really didn't need to come so early because it is amongst the weaker songs. If she wanted a song that showcases her illness, well there were plenty of better options that are about that. If the album doesn't do well it will be because of these bad decisions and it will be a shame because there is actually good material on here it is just hidden away from the public. perfectillusion204 Posted October 24 Posted October 24 (edited) I'm kinda surprised there aren't more explicit songs lol. Not that it matters in any way but I for sure thought there'd be more than 3. Also I'm v intrigued why Stuart Price has writing credits on a few songs but no production credits… he mostly makes dance pop music. Do we think some of these songs were originally in that direction sonically, but then changed the production completely? Edited October 24 by perfectillusion204
