LustSpell Posted August 27 Posted August 27 It's sad to witness someone so completely out of touch of what made her cool at the time and fun. She's just incredibly stupid and mean. 1
Kimmo Posted August 27 Posted August 27 The best decision you've made! Unfortunately like her label… Katy isn't worried 2

I'd rather have her keep being happy while I enjoy other people's music, than have her unhappy and serving good music. May she live a life full of love and satisfactions with her beautiful family.
Pop Art Posted August 27 Posted August 27 I've tugged on her wig quite a bit over the years, but she's always had at least something in her past two flop eras that made them somewhat respectable and kept her MPG title intact (in my opinion). Witness had a minor hit in Chained to the Rhythm and its streaming presence, at the time, was respectable (Spotify) or even good (YouTube), and the tour pulled decent numbers. Smile, while being an even bigger bomb on the album charts, had Never Really Over (even though it was clearly tacked on only because it was a moderate hit) and then Harleys In Hawaii went viral and saved the era from being the complete dud it was before that point. Couple that with her old hits seeing very healthy and increasing recurrent streams the past year or so, and she never really lost her MPG card in my opinion, even if it was holding on for dear life. But this era...unless things turn around and/or she gets very lucky and has another Harelys In Hawaii situation, I think we will witness the true end of Katy Perry's MPG standing as she delivers her first true absolute bomb of an album and era. I'm not saying she can't turn it around, but her boat isn't done sinking yet I fear. 4
Slap Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Yeah the clown album was not it and I also screamed when you reminded me that the same album that featured Swish Swish was meant to be her purposeful pop album I lowkey had mashed up Witness and Smile into one album in my head for some reason, the brain is amazing at protecting us from things that can hurt it 2
Pikachoo Posted August 27 Posted August 27 I am still holding on. Why? because of this: Katheryn Hudson is still in there. the girl we fell in love with is begging to come out, but she has trauma. Trauma from her childhood. "Be a Christian!" her parents would yell. Go to bible camp! they commanded. she tried so hard to be the good christian her parents wanted her to be. she avoided watching television shows like MTV; only Veggietales was allowed. Can you imagine growing up sheltered from the real world? then you discover whats out there, and want to explore, and your parents scold you? she wanted to be her own person; grow; but her parents disapproved. Well, that same trauma followed her to the music industry. she is desperate to be successful so that she can be accepted by the industry. because if she doesnt have her parents approval, she gets it from the industry; from #1s on the charts. if she isnt #1, then betraying her parents to find The Woman Within was all for naught. Even with a beautiful child and loving husband, the little girl inside her is still traumatized. but Katy, you don't need chart approval, you need therapy. You are wide awake. you know what needs to be done to heal yourself; and the answer is not at the bottom of a Dr.Luke recording session. 4

JO1s Posted August 27 Posted August 27 This is now an airport, feel free to announce your departures.
ThomasTea Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Katy will always be the singer-songwriter with choppy bangs who released OOTB, the pop Princess who smashed with TD, who continued to reign with PRISM for me - regardless if she's no longer a commercial smash. Smile is an excellent pop album, and Witness was the album that made me a certified stan. 143 is shaping-up to be exactly what she intended, a fun, house-inspired, dance-pop album.
