mike_int Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Yet it has been certified gold in UK and France Canada already month ago besides others. You know it is not only about US. DL1 peaked only at no.27 and yet it has been most streamed female album for 7 years (following by FN) up until this summer. 1

It kinda is, when it's the biggest music market by a long shot, so… Honestly, thank god. It was way below Dua's standards, her worst album literally, so hopefully this is a giant warning sign to stop doing side jobs and focus on the music. Plus, i'm thankful cuz this means Danny L Harle & Kevin Parker (her worst collaborators) won't return for DL4. And it also means, new music on the horizon. So we truly won!!!!!! Abracadabra Posted August 27 Posted August 27 I still think waiting over four years to release a follow-up to Future Nostalgia was a risky move when she was still kinda establishing herself in the US. I know she had various droplets and the smashery of Cold Heart and DTN, so it wasn't like she had disappeared for all that time but when you have only released two albums almost a decade into your career as a pop artist is risky because you develop more of a fanbase with bodies of work. Still though, I think it will be easy for her to bounce back from this if she plays her cards right. RO debuted pretty well so it shows there is still interest in her, the rollout was just messy. The fact that the album or even it's title wasn't even announced for like four months after Houdini came out Hopefully she comes back sooner rather than later with DL4 and the rollout and marketing has a clearer vision. 3

If you quote me, please quote my full post, not just part. It might be big market but it doesn't change the fact you can be absolute worldwide megastar without being on top spots on US charts. World is not turning around US even they would like to so. At the end only 4.5% of population live there. The thing is US charts are unified. If you put whole Asian market, whole European market together numbers would be different as well. Many people compare Dua to Kylie, and let me tell you, if Dua will have such longevity as Kylie she can literally sh*t on whole US. 3
Walk_Away21 Posted August 27 Posted August 27 I still like the album, but it's definitely missing that IT factor that FN had.

But she got way too highbrowed during Future Nostalgia. She thought she could easily do the work with her father (and redistribute her wealth into her family) which is a good thing... but at the same time he doesn't have the business intellect to make great decisions. And by the way this era performed compared to the last it's as clear as day. 4

Gold certification in 3 countries is nothing to brag about when she's coming from an era with these certs: Australia (ARIA)[277] Gold 35,000‡ Belgium (BEA)[414] Platinum 20,000‡ Brazil (Pro-Música Brasil)[415] 2× Diamond 320,000‡ Canada (Music Canada)[416] 6× Platinum 480,000‡ Denmark (IFPI Danmark)[417] 2× Platinum 40,000‡ France (SNEP)[418] 3× Platinum 300,000‡ Germany (BVMI)[419] Gold 100,000‡ Hungary (MAHASZ)[420] Gold 2,000‡ Italy (FIMI)[421] 2× Platinum 100,000‡ Netherlands (NVPI)[422] 2× Platinum 80,000‡ New Zealand (RMNZ)[423] 5× Platinum 75,000‡ Norway (IFPI Norway)[424] 3× Platinum 60,000* Poland (ZPAV)[425] 4× Platinum 80,000‡ Portugal (AFP)[426] Platinum 15,000^ Spain (PROMUSICAE)[427] 2× Platinum 80,000‡ United Kingdom (BPI)[273] 2× Platinum 759,199[428] United States (RIAA)[430] Platinum 4,300,000[429] 1 2

Solaria Posted August 27 Posted August 27 3 hours ago, SinnerCity said: To be honest, Illusion should've never been a single. Houdini was great. It was a fantastic lead single that barely got promoted upon release except for the Grammy's performance. To believe she put more effort into promoting FN during a lockdown gives you everything you need to know. Dance The Night obviously did tremendously well but yeah, the album was dead on arrival after she embarked on a summer tour days after the album release. There's absolutely no excuse whatsoever to not have released either These Walls or Falling Forever back in June/July It shoulda been: 1. Training Season (the Friday before the grammys) 2. These Walls 3. Whatcha Doing (feat. Jack Harlow) 4. Houdini

Houdini Solid single choices but I still would've preferred Houdini to be the lead, although I would say this, the extended version should've been the official version but Pre-album release 1. Houdini 2. Training Season After album release 3. These Walls 4. Falling Forever Something that we are also missing is some big collabs in between the singles and obviously, the fact that we haven't heard anything yet about a deluxe edition is concerning, honestly, just get in the studio, record 2-3 bops with a different producer and just release them. Can't belive Dua is half-assing her third album like this, like, leave this laziness for album five or sixth girlie.
Funnyfatty Posted August 27 Posted August 27 I mean why let the album tank like that when you have interviews that the album is going to be the next big thing? She should release Falling Forever as the next single and do something about this era. She is in a very risky situation and maybe won't even see any kind of success next era. Dojas album also underperformed compared to the previous one but she got herself hits out of it

Well to be fair we would've likely gotten DL3 sooner if she didn't have to postpone the FN tour because of Covid. And then with Barbie she had to stay in that disco realm because if fitted the soundtrack. There were a lot of factors that made it kind of iffy to start the era sooner. I don't think it would've worked if she had released the album right during the FN tour like a Mrs. Carter's situation with 4 and ST. Dua is way too focused on distinct era's for that to work. 1
Aries Groove Posted August 27 Posted August 27 The album was very weak, not surprised. I have no doubt that she can rebound easily with GOOD Pop music. Her brand isnt damage at all. 1
dumbsparce Posted August 28 Posted August 28 It's shocking it even lasted that long considering nothing took off. Props to her tbh
xluvxduffxmusicx Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Her brand is damaged. I'm even doubting she could make a successful comeback with good music. 2
Roberto Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Gonna wait until after Xmas, that's the moment Houdini is gonna smash and the album will return to charts.
Sugar-Rush Posted August 28 Posted August 28 It was radically optimistic of Dua to believe that the album would do well, although at least the singles were cute.
Damien M Posted August 28 Posted August 28 She should've made an Afro-Pop album. Another dance record? Lord.

Infact I'm pretty sure Dua's much bigger than her outside Europe so this isn't a fair comparison. I think Dua will be fine is she drops DL4 soon with a new sound and aesthetic
