sunbathinganimal Posted August 24 Posted August 24 (edited) I came across this video essay by popular YouTuber D'Angelo Wallace, which has been viewed more than 1.2 million times since being posted four days ago. It's a comprehensive breakdown of how Katy has fumbled her comeback at every single opportunity, detailing why she has only herself to blame for the unprecedented backlash. Some choice quotes: Quote I truly believe the last two months have done more to harm her reputation than Smile and Witness ever could. Quote I think Katy Perry has a really serious Katy Perry problem. Quote If Katy Perry is not careful, then the term 'Witness era' that we use to refer to flops, one day it's just gonna be 'Katy Perry era'. What are your thoughts? Tistotal Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Thanks for your opinion D' Angelo. You told us what we already know. She is in the Jlo level now.
Pavement Princess Posted August 24 Posted August 24 The way she could have avoided all of this if she just made a bop.

Rabbit Posted August 24 Posted August 24 that loser makes a living from "taking down" public figures and will be replaced and forgotten in a matter of years whereas katys music will live on whether he likes it or not 1

TipToe Posted August 24 Posted August 24 I don't believe in the idea she only has "herself to blame". The most puzzling thing to me about Katy Perry situation is that somehow there's a full team of smarter people allowing her to make all those bad decisions. She most likely don't have the autonomy to give the last word on things, even Madonna had to follow label orders time and time again during her career... so it seems like Katy is being mismanaged on purpose. 1

Riverbank Posted August 24 Posted August 24 I still can't believe how badly she and her team fumbled this era Especially since it was so easy to root for her because of the recent 2010s nostalgia revival. Witness was different because there was a bunch of other factors that left long term damage to her public image. I always felt that backlash was ill-intentioned because they didn't have a legitimate reason to dogpile on her. But they did anyway because it was cool to do so and you could still feel sympathy for her. However she's literally giving them a multitude of valid reasons to hate her this time She's always made questionable choices in her career but working with an alledged abuser on an female empowerment anthem that's supposed to get your career back on track really takes the prize. It's like she's addicted to self-sabotage 1 1
Rihinvention Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Will she ever have an #1 single again? Most likely no. Will pop culture enthusiasts still check out her material over the coming decades, regardless of how much 143 flops? Most likely. I don't see how someone could achieve that level of success and then be completely forgotten. Even though the GP didn't really care for Madame X and Glory, pop culture fans still checked them out because we're invested in their careers, flops and all. Katy's turning 40 in a few weeks, so I definitely think younger people see her as being "too old" now, and I doubt she'll have a 'Believe' or a 'Hung Up' moment, but most of us will probably still follow along — including to troll her. That being said, I was reading the 'Lifetimes' lyrics today, and if you don't listen to the song, and just read the lyrics, it's actually insane how repetitive it is. Just read them, all the way through, without singing whatever you know of the melody. It's actually kinda insane. Spoiler I'll love you for, I'll love you for life Lifetimes I'll love you for, I'll love you for life Lifetimes I know you feel it Can you believe it? I'm gonna love you 'til the end And then repeat it I know you feel it Can you believe it? I'm gonna love you 'til the end And then repeat it Like the sun is always rising (rising) Like the stars are in the sky You and I will find each other (each other) In every single life Baby, you and me for infinity My eternity (my eternity) Baby, you and me for infinity My eternity (my eternity) I'll love you for, I'll love you for life Lifetimes I'll love you for, I'll love you for life Lifetimes I know you feel it Can you believe it? I'm gonna love you 'til the end And then repeat it I know you feel it (feel it) Can you believe it? ('Lieve it) I'm gonna love you 'til the end And then repeat it For life For life For life For life Baby, you and me for infinity My eternity (my eternity) Baby, you and me for infinity My eternity, yeah (my eternity) I'll love you for, I'll love you for life Lifetimes I'll love you for, I'll love you for life Lifetimes I know you feel it Can you believe it? I'm gonna love you 'til the end And then repeat it I know you feel it (feel it) Can you believe it? ('Lieve it) I'm gonna love you 'til the end And then repeat it (I'm gonna love you) For life For life For life For life 1
