Track #14 on I am...

HIGH SCORE: 10 x 3 (Kyle-x, Meloetta Carey, AvadaKedavra)

LOW SCORE: 2.1 x 1 (Curaga)

HOST SCORE: 8

So you claim to have "no more words" and yet you've written a six-minute song? Interesting...

This is a really lovely song though. I fear that for some of the haters it maybe faded into just being part of the ballad suite, but consumed on its own merits its a very touching and introspective moment. That whole "winners and losers" part of the lyrics is a bit messy to read but we assume it made more sense in Japanese. When in doubt, blame localization.

Not many live outings for this song - it appeared live on the 2002 Arena Tour but nothing since. I suppose Ayu is spoiled for choice when choosing ballads to perform, but it would be nice to throw a bone to some of the less obvious ones, mama! I guess she's too busy reviving SIGNAL. Sigh...

Kyle-x: She was getting introspective on this one lyrically whew. This fits great as one of the closing tracks. The "nicely nice remix" is a fun beep boop take and the "turn up the break mix" goes off as a trance track.

Invisibility: The way she put four ballads (this being the third) next to each other at the rear end of the album is a scream. It's cute, but a bit inessential. Though the violins and the distant drums make a perfect pair for her vocals here... That's ear candy.

Curaga: Third ballad in a row over five minutes? ... At least I like this better than the last two, I guess, and I have to say thank you to Ayumi for training my attention span. Now that I've listened to these overlong albums all the way through multiple times, they don't feel as long (but they're still long...) and normal-length albums are a breeze!

Meloetta Carey: #forthelosers

AMIT: love this one even without any nostalgia attached, a lovely ballad.

The intro feels very lullaby cute. Little birdy :gaycat2: gives me vibes of walkin in the meadow and finding a cavern with some fairies
Her instrumentals are so pretty sometimes.

It would be cool if the song titles on I am... all worked as complete sentences like some of the titles do.

I am... Connected

I am... still alone

Track #11 on Duty

HIGH SCORE: 10 x 2 (Kyle-x, Meloetta Carey)

LOW SCORE: 3 x 1 (Bad Decisions)

HOST SCORE: 6.5

You know, this wouldn't be a bad closing track for Duty, would it? I tend to think the album sort of falls off towards the end, but maybe if it ended on this note I might be a bit more appreciative. Key is another slice of pop-rock from our J-pop Empress. It doesn't rock the boat or offer anything out of the ordinary, but it does a nice job and has a sweet chorus to boot. I actually quite like some of the lyrics to this one, especially the part where Ayu laments that she is neither a painter nor an author, and that writing songs is her own chosen outlet for her creativity and expression.

Now, as for what makes this the ~eternal tie version~? It beats me. I thought maybe there was an alternative take included on one of the pre-album singles or something like that, like immature has that alternative mix on the appears CD? But I couldn't find anything. Maybe there never was another version? Maybe it was just given the subtitle for flair? Oh, you know what that's probably it. J-pop...

Suilen: it really opens up in the second half.

Kyle-x: I love love love this song. Hooks me right from the guitar in the intro and the chorus really HITS. The "nicely nice waterfowl remix" is super cute and chill.

Meloetta Carey: my most played Ayu track---dramatic rock excellence, people died, Amy Lee questioned her career path, the world ended, etc.

AMIT: the strings in the bridge are truly beautiful and take the song to another level.

The word key alone doesn't make a compelling title so I get the need for the embellishment

Agree. This one feels like a closing track. Something about the instrumental :gaycat2: pouring all your feelings and bye. Bye to the dark ayumi.
Cause she was happier in the I Am era? That one feels like a different ayu to her insecure self from the past

I expected you all to do this masterpiece dirty :gaycat1:
