Artists that you stanned, but then had to quit?

We all were die-hard fans of many pop girls, but we had to leave them due to the release of bad music, either transitioning into haters or casual fans.

For me:

Kesha - I loved her discography until Warrior, and all the unreleased music. Her rumored project Lipsha sounded promising, but then it all went downhill music-wise. For some reason announcing that she was going to drop the $ was the final straw for me. Casual fan.

Gaga - I was very excited for the release of ARTPOP as a stan. Burqa being the lead single, and rumored collaborations such as Tea, Ratchet, Red Flame were all promising. However, with the released of Applause and the actual album my entire opinion changed, and the subsequent albums were not my favorite. Casual fan.

Katy - Good music until Witness, three bad albums in a row. Casual fan.

Who are they for you?

Katy Perry because I don't have a humiliation kink. I'll still buy 143 even though it's dumpster fire

Marina - ADIAML happened. Massive hypocrite if you ask me

- America = bad is a common lyrical theme in her recent music but she won't write a lyric or two about the TERF island she's from

- America = bad but she lives in LA

- capitalism = bad yet had 100$ meet and greets over zoom during COVID

- Charli familiar froot fiasco which kinda exposed her as an insufferable person

- scrapping Die Life and not releasing Scab and Plaster

I used to love Avril as much as Britney and Xtina, but she missed me with the long hiatus after her selftitled, then HAW being such an uncharacteristic type of album from her and then LS trying too hard to be an Avril album. I think she has to find a way back to what she used to do best that also feels genuine.

I grew up with country Taylor and didn't love those albums. I actually really disliked those albums. But once she moved into pop with 1989-Reputation-Lover I became a huge fan. But then folklore and evermore lost me, and midnights wasn't my cup of tea, but now TTPD has got me intrigued. An emotional journey lol

Foxes - was a diehard stan 2013 - 2016, then she went on a long ass hiatus, (probably needed for her mental health, which is understandable). she came back in 2020/21, with Friends in the Corner EP, which was mid. however, i absolutely LOVED her 2022 album, The Kick. unfortunately, by then, i had gotten used to supporting her from afar.

Dua Lipa - a stan from 2015 - 2019. not to sound pretentious, but she simply became too mainstream for me. i heard her music everywhere, involuntarily, so i lost desire to listen to it on my own. and the more famous she got, the more out of reach she felt (if that makes sense). still support from afar!

Demi Lovato - a diehard stan 2008 - 2011. after Unbroken her music just wasn't hitting for me anymore. she started oversinging in every single one of her songs with that gospel-influenced-churchy vibrato… i just couldn't get into it. then her personality became really annoying on top of that, so…

I don't stan anyone cause I'm not that invested, but there's artists I used to love that I either don't care for entirely now or "I get to it when I get to it" is my mentality towards their new material. I had to leave Kanye behind years ago. I'll still check in to a new album depending but it's not the same. I also don't care for Björk anymore, her new material doesn't do it for me. Lupe Fiasco, PARTYNEXTDOOR, The Weeknd, I haven't liked anything Grimes has put out since Visions, I haven't listened to Taylor Swift much as I used to when Red was released, Ariel Pink dropping his masterwork then falling off the face of the planet... The list can really go on for me.

Demi stan from Unbroken to Confident, the next record was mid, only liked SNS, although TAOSO is way more better, the whole album is very well delivered and coherent

P!nk stan from Funhouse to Beautiful Trauma (S) - the album was dissapointing, H2BH terrible but i enjoy Trustfall since it's way more coherent and

Kelly stan from 2013 to 2017 - the long hiatus… it really made everything worse, i still bought chemistry but not as a stan but a casual listener

I used to love love love Roisin Murphy but ever since she outed herself as a TERF, I get absolutely no joy from her music anymore.

Also was a big fan of Grimes (and I still enjoy her first four records) but then she revealed herself to not be "quirky" but actually just kind of dumb and the material got BAD. Same thing happened with M.I.A.

also, ever since St. Vincent was photographed getting cozy with Johnny D*pp I have no desire to go back to her last album.

Glass Animals... music turned to absolute shite, unbearably so. I cannot believe the same band that made ZABA and HTBAHB made this last turd.

And unfortunately Arca. I love her early, more hip-hop inspired material but everything since her self-titled album has not been for me at all.

Huge Rihanna fan because her deep cuts/non-singles were as good as her hit singles.

Had to quit after she quit her music career.

Normani sadly, I loved Dopamine but she does not have enough output for me to be fan, no videos, promo, nothing. But she's had struggles and the music still serves so I still stream

Melanie Martinez - for obvious reasons. I used to be die hard stan during Cry Baby era. Ever since Timothy came out with her story, everything went downhill, especially the quality of her music

Marina - the hype after Froot came out was huge and I was really looking forward for her new music, but L+F happened

I absolutely loved Dua Lipa during her debut era as well. What put me off about Future Nostalgia was that I completely disliked that whole 80s revival trend, it was all too artificial and I think that was such an overrated decade, inferior to both the 70s and 90s. Future Nostalgia was a good album that I listened to a lot, but that trend became annoying quick :katie:

The Dua one speaks to me on so many levels unfortunately. I hate to admit it but her success literally made me unstan her lol. But I'm still a fan

As for foxes, I loved FIC so I still love her now.

L+F and Ancient Dreams made me feel like Smile and 143 are making me feel now. Two unjustifiable albums after three solid ones.

I guess I kinda stanned Ariana since her debut, but I don't really care for her anymore. Especially since I got more into Mariah Carey and realised Ariana's music was never as good

Katy. But already in 2013. Roar just ended it for me. I bopped to CTTR but that was it.

Today I am rather glad tbh :giraffe:

Funny, I just have gotten into Ariana (especially Eternal Sunshine) and I've been a Lamb since 2000. Ariana is great.

I used to stan Rihanna, from GGGB to Anti. But my adoration for her took a hit because of her abandoning her music career and good for her if she finds joy in Fenty, but I really don't care whatsoever.

I'll still listen to the music when it drops, but I don't anticipate it like I used to. I'm in a "it'll drop when it'll drop and in the meantime idc". Worse, the songs she released since 2017 (which was an all-time year in terms of collabs; Wild Thoughts, Selfish, Lemon and Loyalty are all 10/10s) haven't been my cup of tea (Lift Me Up, Born Again, Believe It are all inconsequential at best), so that doesn't give me high hopes for R9.

To me, R9 will either be the most rewarding album of all time, or a monumental deception. I don't picture any in-between for how I'll perceive it.

I did however had a wonderful time "rediscovering" her catalogue at the Superbowl. That setlist was on rotation for MONTHS in my house.
