Romova99 Posted August 13 Posted August 13 How do they have time to think on these useless things, just keep releasing on Fridays and shut up guys.
MistressKay Posted August 14 Posted August 14 It used to always be a Tuesday I think? I remember it changing sometime in the 2000s. I guess I agree with it. People don't really pay attention to new music during the weekend . They listen to it more during their commutes to work and school.
Into The Void Posted August 15 Posted August 15 Doesn't matter to me which day it's released I'll still check it
GeminiCat Posted August 15 Posted August 15 I personally don't mind the Friday release as a consumer but at the same time from a business standpoint, sales are in the toilet and depressed across the board right now aside from a select few acts and the numbers do say streams drop drastically on the weekend vs weekdays. More promo can be done immediately after drop during the week than on the weekend. It makes sense.
Selegend Posted August 15 Posted August 15 (edited) Monday would be the best day but they don't want it cuz they would have to work during the weekend to get everything ready. that's why they want tuesday back so they will have the whole monday to work on its release and the rest of the week to do it's promo. Monday > Friday >>>>> the rest. Edited August 15 by Selegend
theweekend Posted August 15 Posted August 15 this really sounds to me Katy Perry proved their point they didn't have the week to work on this crisis management and they had to watch her getting teared down on the whole weekend, then on Monday the song was already over. then the conversation suddenly is brought up again. for me it's been the same point I've been saying for years, labels/PRs/management team are completely out of touch for their artists markets and how they're positioned,... it's simple as that they want more time during the week to work on the artist's campaign to help them out (even though they're in a crisis or not). in some way they have been exposed for a while for how incompetent they are.
pride4jc1222 Posted August 15 Posted August 15 I don't think the Friday release date is the problem. I think it's the fact that the US/Billboard charts are revealed more than a half-week later after the tracking week is over. By the time the Hot 100 is announced, all of the other world charts have been released, and it just feels like old news at that point. I wouldn't mind if the new music release date is moved back to Tuesday (or even Monday), but the Hot 100 needs to be revealed no later than the 2nd afternoon following the end of the tracking period, so it still feels fresh.
Feanor Posted August 15 Posted August 15 Monday would be ideal imo, but I guess labels (rightly) don't want people to work over the weekend to prepare for a Monday drop, so going back to Tuesdays would also be great. 1
toy soldier. Posted August 16 Posted August 16 I actually agree with this. Music comes out on Friday and then I'm out for the whole weekend so I'd rather listen to songs I already know. If it came out on Wednesday I'd have more time to listen to the new releases a couple of times and already be familiar with it on the weekend
Letemtalk Posted August 17 Posted August 17 This makes sense in some respects, most regular people don't think "The weekend is here, time to listen to new music and talk about it on ATRL and stan twitter". They go out on Friday night, maybe play sports or some other activity in the weekend, and by Monday they forgot what music came out on Friday. Other countries reveal charts earlier because they estimate last day's streams at least. YouTube is the most problematic, for some weeks UK Charts missed 3 days of data...
Draper. Posted August 17 Posted August 17 I mean, I kinda get it. Some acts pay critics to have their first weekend with a decent critic score with some fake 100s thrown on Metacritic and AOTY mere hours after the album release just to get more people checking the album before the negative critiques come on Monday, when people have already been tricked. It's an unfair practice that lacks transparency towards the listeners and it should change. 1
Polgg48 Posted August 17 Posted August 17 regularly thursday was sustainable date to roll momentium on lesser releases when everyone finished their main albums, friday numbers usually the lowest when it's obvious listeners already move on to weekend. also think this due to radio consumption throughtout a week and fraudulant numbers on sunday-monday that we always feel fishy about from time to time. most dominated sale/streaming artists can releases on sunday afternoon then pull more numbers than those khias in any day of a week, literally only stan bases stream on sunday
