Why can't the marketing effort continue on Monday?

Tuesday releases seem weird now

people stream less on weekends, Spotify numbers on Saturday and Sunday are much lower than during the week

Probably because during the week people have casual playlists on during work

Tuesday just...never made sense to me. Getting new music on Fridays is perfect because I usually like spending my weekend listening to new albums/discovering new artists if I'm staying at home.

If not Friday, Monday would make the most sense with his "marketing days" comment. And Mondays in general could use the rebrand, poor dat

There are perks to having it be Fridays. You can spend the weekend processing and absorbing the songs, which is especially useful when your fave drops a 31 song album

….but I'd go back to Tuesday in a heartbeat. It would be good to shake things up again. You would have almost the full week ahead to promote.

The lack of promotion is the problem, not a Friday release date. No one wants to work anymore.

To be fair traditional promotion is very limited nowadays. No one watches live tv anymore with the exception of old people so all the talk show/late night show performances don't do ****.

And there's no places like TRL, 106 & Park etc. What shows exist today that occupy the purpose those 2 used to occupy? Like if a performer wants to perform and interact with a predominately young audience, where do they go today?

TikTok and spotify playlists is the only effective promo in 2024.

because logistically it wouldn't work. songs would have to be ready and submitted by friday because labels don't work over weekend, and in our streaming age some artists only finish songs/submit it to the label hours before the friday release. if an artist wanted to submit something over the weekend to get it released on monday it'd be a nightmare. it would also make leaks more likely, especially big artists don't want their songs/albums sitting in DSPs for days, they only get them distributed hours before the friday release.

I don't care as much as about the day, but if we start with different release days in different countries again there will be riots. Pick a day for everyone.

People listen to less music on the weekends... He actually laid it out well in an older thread.

Oh so he's been calling for this for about as long as the Friday release scheme existed :dies:

Just follow South Korean model and drop it on Monday at 6PM. It's the first day of the week and people are done with work/on the way home.

Release day in the UK used to be a Monday and I used to think that made the most sense. :michael:

And then you'd tune in for the Official Top 40 on a Sunday evening, with the #1 being revealed at 7pm!

You can still listen to new music on whatever day you want.

And I would love for that to continue. But if they want to change the day, it's not a problem for me if all countries have new releases on Tuesday. I don't think they would go back to having different release days in different countries, but these are music excecutives, they're not very bright sometimes:suburban:

Darling, many Asians actually usually leave work at 5-6pm. I mean some do work OT, but generally it's 6-7pm.

Mondays would mean they need to work Sundays in order to have everything ready for the release at midnight which they're not going to want to do as they're too entitled to work weekends.

Monday is the most sensible alternative

Tuesday is so RANDOM.. at least MONDAY screams "frest start", "what's new?"

Stop trying to make "Tuesday" happen- it's not going to happen.
