KatyPrismSpirit Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Like the album fulfilled it's purpose and did what it had to do idk... Yes, it wasn't as psychedelic as promised but who gives af? Dua Lipa is hot, makes pop excellence and should never have to deal with tanking. The album is actually excellent and theres A LOT to enjoy. oh radical optimism sweetie, they can never make me hate you. how little dulas handled you is beyond criminal 10 2
SharGaga Posted August 8 Posted August 8 We needed more dark bops like Houdini. Not whatever dolphin rainbow 100 feet under water ish shiz the rest was. 2 1
glitch Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Dua Lipa exists as an artist to give us something for the summertime, something for the girls to get ready and party to. Houdini, Training Season and Illusion understood that assignment. The rest of the album? It was cute but not what people wanted from her. No one wants midtempos from Dua. She needs to be serving bop after bop after bop. People drag some pop albums as being a collection of singles, but that's exactly what she should be serving and why Future Nostalgia was so successful. 1
allforyou Posted August 8 Posted August 8 It deserved much better, I still have hope that there will at least be another single to pick up the momentum again 1
YourFavoriteWeapon Posted August 8 Posted August 8 I agree, it's a pretty decent album and didn't deserve to flop or get dragged the way it did. They should really push French Exit or Happy For You as a last minute attempt to save the era.
CottageHore Posted August 8 Posted August 8 (edited) In retrospect, it really didn't add anything to her discography that wasn't already there but I've always thought its lack of success and criticism was unwarranted. Most of the songs are perfectly crafted pop songs. Houdini and These Walls alone could've smashed if in the right hands. I just think people were wanting something new and fresh from Dua and they're getting sick of the 80s pop bop sound that plagued 2020-2023. Edited August 8 by CottageHore
perpetual novice Posted August 8 Posted August 8 I disagree, she really did nothing on that album. It literally just fulfils the sole objective of being another album in her discography, but there is nothing worth coming back to on it when you put it against her past two works. 2 2
Mark Rih Posted August 8 Posted August 8 I'm ok with the album underperforming, but the singles, especially Houdini and TS, deserved every possible form of success and more. I know it's partly her fault but those classics deserved BETTER 1
Europe Posted August 8 Posted August 8 As a casual enjoyer of her music, there was not one song on the album I wanted to play more than once. And I really gave her a chance. Unless you are one of her delusional stans there is no reason to listen to that mess. 1

Ewan Chaos Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Houdini and Illusion deserved more success, I'll give you that 1
bielneira Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Honestly, no. When you listen to the album, is very clear that something got scrapped, then they turned tables, but didn't want to let go of potential hits from the previous project. The album ended up becoming a mess sound-wise
katara Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Houdini deserved to be at least a Dance The Night sized hit & Illusion deserved to be a BMH sized hit 3 1
wish Posted August 8 Posted August 8 It's a pretty boring album tbh. The singles could've had more success with the right management, but I think the album was always destined to underperform

suburbannature Posted August 8 Posted August 8 It's generic, faceless pop that served as a devolution from FN. I expected so much more. 1 2
liquiddiamonds Posted August 8 Posted August 8 It's not in my convo for my favorite albums of this year. The psychedelic trip hop album would've been a moment for her. RO is way too clean and 2024 is the year pop stars got a bit more raw, showed more personality while being 100% pop. I even think Lorde will have a commercial comeback if this is the current mood for a while
