With an ever growing streaming market, it does feel like every year a hit has the potential to be bigger than whatever came before because of being exposed to a bigger audience sample. true but that depends on a song. it has to be really good catchy and very gp-friendly. it's not easy to accomplish that

I'm not really surprised because the streaming era is making singles more and more competitive and record breaking. But it's impressive that a non-English song will be the biggest, though.

Mirrors114 Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Ugh no Shakira could have easily over shadow this man EASILY if she promoted Chantaje more! Dammit Shakira! I still love you but I guess he does NEED the career path change and resurgence more than you do, You got number ones at least, he hasn't had them in a minute!
Bael Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Lmfao. The ignorance in this thread and the people fuming. Has Despacito even peaked yet? I hope it stays this big for a while, the Bieber remix sucks, but I'm still not sick of the original, even though I am from Puerto Rico and it has been absolutely everywhere since it came out.
ToMmY Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Truly a cancer. I would like to apologize on behalf of all the decent latin people for this disgrace.
Roberto Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 (edited) This song will be one of the biggest song ever and if y'all don't think that, it's time to face the truth and see the light. Sad considering it's boring and most of us didn't even finish it. Edited June 23, 2017 by Roberto
HausofKen Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 I still haven't heard this song yet and i'm happy because my ears are still safe from this trash.
IVY Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 (edited) BB is wack for saying this and comparing the song with UF which is nearing 8m in digital sales in the US alone, along with achieving huge streams on Spotify and YT. With streams added there will always be songs that feel bigger than they already are. Edited June 23, 2017 by IVY
Pipero Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 im here for despacito to become the biggest hit among hits

One Dance/Work felt bigger. Except Despacito is still growing and it's gonna take a while until it starts going down the charts. Also, this is a true WW hit. In most countries it's already way bigger than those 2 songs you mentioned. I was just reading wikipedia's page for this song and if all of this is true, it's damn impressive Quote In the United States, "Despacito" sold 1,163,000 downloads as of June 19, 2017[45] and received a 34× platinum (Latin) certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on May 19, 2017, for units of over 2,040,000 sales plus track-equivalent streams. Internationally, the song topped the charts of Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay and Venezuela. Some of those charts had combined entries for the original and the remix version featuring Justin Bieber. The original version became the song with most radio spins in Latin America in February 2017, with 59,359 spins between the ten countries Monitor Latino measure.[46] It broke the record for the most simultaneous number-ones on Monitor Latino's charts, with eleven on the issue dated April 2, 2017.[46][47] Across Europe, the song was certified platinum by the Belgian Entertainment Association (BEA), the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), the Danish International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique (SNEP) and the Swiss IFPI. It was also certified 3× gold by the Bundesverband Musikindustrie (BVMI), 6× platinum by the Federazione Industria Musicale Italiana (FIMI) and 8× platinum by the Spanish Music Producers (PROMUSICAE). In Latin America, "Despacito" received a diamond+3× platinum certification by the Mexican Association of Producers of Phonograms and Videograms (AMPROFON), denoting sales of over 480,000 units as of May 2017. In Oceania, the remix version featuring Justin Bieber was certified gold by the Recorded Music NZ (RMNZ) for sales of over 15,000 copies. The success of the song and its remix version led Daddy Yankee to become the second most listened artist worldwide on the streaming service Spotify in May 2017.[48][49]"Despacito" is cited as the song that renewed interest in the Latin Music market from recording labels in the United States.[50] And the certifications for this already Let's just admit that this IS this year's biggest hit, Shape Of You being the 2nd biggest one, and one of the biggest hits of the last few years WW. Baby Judas Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 In my country, we don't understand a single word from this song but everyone's bopping whenever someone plays it. Where's SOY on these lists though? It got 2B+ views from youtube and 1B+ streams from Spotify.
emme Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 i'm all for latinos slaying the music industry but this song is so bland.
