TipToe Posted August 5 Posted August 5 I'm not the biggest fan of the alberm (not into sugary ballads) but it certainly has some gems. The duo Sanctuary/Bedtime Story gimmes me ear-gasm tbh, a transcendental experience

Freedom is somehow one of the best songs of all time. truly ahead of her time. it's a huge shame the panther mix featuring MJB, Queen Latifah, Aalyiah, En Vogue, TLC and others was ERASED from streaming. the power that version has is out of this world. OT: I don't think BS is close to TPV apart from Dallas Austin and some songs on BS being more introspective (Sanctuary), but thematically they're not close at all.

I must listen to this album when I am traveling or when I'm home on weekends drinking some wine. ugh

Take a Bow must be her most popular sing that i like the less, lol. I love Forbidden Love tho, that's a nice one.

The only thing Bjork inspired was LITERALLY the song Bjork wrote herself. But the vide i wouldn't say that looks very Bjork inspired. Most inspirations came from old paintings. Y'all don't even think before posting do you, lmao. 1

I like it. it's not among my favorites of her. it's more a cheesy R&B that was on trend that time and Babyface has mastered it at that time. Sanctuary, Forbidden Love, Secret and Love Tried to Welcome Me are the main ballads on this album. Inside of Me and Take a Bow come after for me. I do like how timeless the uptempo/midtempos are on it: Human Nature, I'd Rather Be Your Lover, Survival and Bedtime Story are highlights here. (Don't Stop is good but not a highlight).
C_Colstead Posted August 6 Posted August 6 (edited) I must admit, it took me a while to get into this album as a whole instead of just its singles, but when it hit, it hit. One of M's most underrated albums. The OP was right when they said its often overshadowed by the masterpieces that are Erotica and ROL. Ugh, the way the 90s was by far her most creative period . PopCultAficionado Posted August 6 Posted August 6 (edited) One of her best for sure . It helped her soften her image but it still had that Madonna edge to it. It went like this.. Backlash Era (1992-1993) Softer Image / Transitional Period (1994-1997) Imperial Phase / Reinvention (1998-1999) Erotica Bedtime Stories / Something to Remember / Evita Ray of Light Edited August 7 by PopCultAficionado
