Breakdown Posted August 1 Posted August 1 (edited) The tumblr aesthetics singer of the Marina, Sky, Ashley (), Lana gen who used to make the good pop records True Romance and Sucker? Yes, we lost her as soon as she released the trash After the Afterparty and Vroom Vroom. And you know what? We never got her back, it only went downhill from there. Along with her unbearable personality. Edited August 1 by Breakdown 1 3 12
jomarr Posted August 1 Posted August 1 As long as her sound will remain true to her branding, I'm fine woth her hitting mainstream.
M!X Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Not really because the quality of the music itself is good and lets not forget who sings the chorus of Fancy, a literal #1 mainstream hit 1

People have always been talking about how underrated Charli is and now she's blowing up that's a problem? Be happy for her success, because more success means more budget for her future projects. Agreed. Charli has been working so hard and finally people understand it, what's wrong with that?. People often root for female artists when they're emerging or struggling, appreciating their authenticity and the potential they represent. However, once these artists achieve mainstream success, they can be perceived as having "sold out" or lost their original appeal. The music industry is highly dynamic, with trends shifting rapidly. An artist who was once groundbreaking can quickly become seen as part of the establishment. Fans who seek out the next big thing might turn away from once-favorite artists as they become more mainstream. The OP is disgusting. 1

Vegvisir Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Um.. don't be weird, she's a straight cis woman and we never owned her, we celebrated her first. If you're truly a fan you'll want Charli to get all the accolades and success she deserves. 4

Charli already tried a "sellout" era with Crash, and BRAT is doing much better. I think that shows people are interested in her authenticity and I doubt she's about to start pandering to what people want from her. 1

ThousandMiles Posted August 1 Author Posted August 1 maybe this thread was just a ploy from the start to promote Guess ft. Billie Eilish (out now)

LoveInStereo Posted August 1 Posted August 1 No ******* way. Of any artist I've ever listened to, her underdog status always felt so unfair to me. She blends exaggerated top 40 pop with more avant garde elements in such an accessible, fresh way. It didn't make sense for so long to have pop music discourse not include Charli as a dominant force in it when she's been moving the needle for years now 2
bielneira Posted August 1 Posted August 1 This era she deserves EVERYTHING, so who cares if she becomes more mainstream after this
Spark Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Good!! Maybe now she won't have to deal with weird gay men who stick poppers in her face and ask her to sign their douche
MatiRod Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Yes. It's time to let go. As we go on We remember All the times we Had together
45seconds Posted August 1 Posted August 1 (edited) I think you all are overplaying the "success" among the GP. A few talking points in an election cycle isn't going to be sustainable at all. It's not even like she's on some meteoric rise like Chapel. Edited August 1 by 45seconds 1
Burn Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Well yes, you have lost Charli XCX. She's been replaced by Charli xcx. 1
Jack! Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Charli hasn't been the gay underground girlie since Sucker. I appreciate her mixtapes, EPs and side-projects extend her audience in the club scene, and like any female pop star she has a huge gay fanbase, but in terms of her major-label LP releases she's been mainstream coded since BoomClap blew up.
State of Grace. Posted August 1 Posted August 1 (edited) The amount of thinkpieces and meltdowns about Charli seeing some success and branching out of her usual niche is so annoying. It's LONG overdue and I can't think of a more deserving album because its a perfect culmination of her artistry. I'm pretty sure Charli is happy and grateful for all the success and recognition she's getting this summer. Plus, she'll be getting more budget now to do whatever the **** she wants. I'd get the "WE LOST CHARLI OMG!!!" narrative if she went full on sellout on us and was serving generic faceless UK dance ****, but she's literally doing it with her best album and one of the best of the decade.
