Pop_Music_Lover Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Not you pointing out the "all her f***** lies flashed before her eyes"... a line that basically elevated the song. I agree she avoided cursing because her image was so different back then but I think she has the richest vocabulary/capability of using analogies/ metaphors amongst all the MPG, so cmon... we live in a world where the average male rap artist writes lyrics that are worse than what a 10 year old could write yet we want every single lyrics, from a mainstream female artist, to be top notch? she wrote so many ORIGINAL beautiful lines throughout her career, she has nothing left to prove 2
Burn Posted August 1 Posted August 1 She should stop swearing in her songs. She just can't pull it off. She wants us to think she's a bad ***** but she's nothing like that, she's nothing of the sort. She just doesn't have the vernacular she thinks she possesses. Somebody lied to her several times. 1 4 1

BoDaToe Posted August 2 Posted August 2 It's almost never necessary and the clean versions are better 99% of the time. "like a Vegas acrobat" and "what if I can't have him" being two examples off the top of my head. Swear words are supposed to enhance or show more emotion and her clean versions are almost always more emotional or clever depending on what the song calls for. 1
TayGod Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Come on! She's an artist and all artists need to express themselves! In an artistic world, swearing is common. Can you imagine watching a mafia movie or a horror movie where the character doesn't swear and is instead a quiet talker? It would defeat the purpose of the actual art and make it less authentic. Imagine in the excorcist, The possessed Regan saying Fudge instead of **** or in The Godfather, Al Pacino saying Fudge off instead of **** off! Which sound more authentic and true to the feeling of the art. It's all about expressionism. Of course, a lot of Taylor's art is autobiographical, but her swearing actually enhances the expressionism.
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted August 2 Posted August 2 As a HETEROSEXUAL, PURE and DEVOUT CHRISTIAN woman put on this earth to be one of God's greatest soldiers, I have to agree that I was appalled at Taylor's utter betrayal to her faith by repeatedly breaking one of the Ten Commandments of thou shalt not curse on a pop song! Think of the CHILDREN! It's not what He would've wanted for them. Cursing is something only witches do. Taylor's mouth has become SINFUL and FILTHY. I hope at this crossroads of her morals, Taylor eventually finds it in herself to instead bear her cross for the Lord again. All it will take is not repeating the words of SATAN!

Soda Pop Queen Posted August 2 Posted August 2 lol I don't know about this being indicative of anyone's lyrical skill declining but I have noticed the general use of swearing has gone up tenfold in pop and r&b music over the last 10+ years and sometimes it works for certain artists and sometimes it doesn't and it feels jarring, especially when it's gratuitous.

It's not up to the artist sweetie, they release clean versions for everyone if they like it or not at least she goes into the effort of coming up AND recording the same songs, replacing the curse words with tame terms that don't hinder neither the message or the flow of the song, instead of having it automatically being replaced by the annoying bleeps.
Letemtalk Posted August 2 Posted August 2 No, I think her ever-increasing use of swear words, and her songwriting decline are not really related. Folklore is better than Lover, despite the newer album having more swear words.
IBeMe Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Obviously not BUTI will say that some of the clean versions of the tracks on TTPD pack more of a punch because the swear word is a little random at times. I would suggest she minimizes the use of those words unless absolutely needed to make a point or convey an emotion in a song. I feel like she did that best on Folklore and Evermore. Even on Midnights. With TTPD it does sound a little excessive at times but I wouldnt say that that's a sign of her writing not being up to par anymore or anything like that. I think you're reading too deep into it lol
