One of our participants had this to say about the next song:

Quote

"Reminds me of Grandfather please stand on the shoulders of my father while he's deep-sea fishing but more pop."

6.4 - "Ed tried booking Taylor for a hit, but no one told him Swifties don't give a **** about what she does on other people's albums. I guess he was trying to leverage her for the post-release revamp of whatever album this came from, but like... even Lord's singles with Ed underperformed pretty hard (I mean I don't know why he thought we'd go for this when EHC and End Fame haven't exactly set the strongest record), so clearly he should've known better. This is a funeral song, a real dirge of a song to get through, though the strings are decent. I will say this gives me flashbacks to an ATRL insider giving me tea about this, which I shared a screenshot of with ONE group chat of like five beloved oomfs, where one of them took it and spread it to all of her group chats, and then like three months later I got an understandably angry PM from that insider with a link to a highly liked instagram post with that screenshot... oh that was humiliating. It seems that user has deleted their ATRL profile (their username used to be ialmostdo, if anyone knows them off ATRL please let them know that I still feel horrible about it). For whatever it's worth I'm no longer speaking with that oomf ddd. Still, the song is pretty meh and my own personal guilts just bring it down further."

If anyone knows a way to get in contact with @ialmostdo I would be very appreciative, I owe ha an apology :clack:

3.984

AbeHicks

11 - "Reminds me of Grandfather please stand on the shoulders of my father while he's deep-sea fishing but more pop."

gagacasanova

10 - "No this is not a troll score. this is a bop... wanna fight about it?"

reputation1989

10 - "No it's probably not a 10 and it should've never been the lead, but y'all do way too much on it!! A fun guilty pleasure bop."

AshleyLovescats887

10 - "i have to"

blown away

9.1 - "Fight me, but this song is a lot of fun. It had no business being the lead from Lover but it's not as bad as y'all make it out to be."

My Tears Ricochet

9 - "I promise that you'll never find another bop like ME!. Haters can choke. They just mad they can't enjoy this cutesy bop, because they're going through their midlife crisis."

kyungsoowift

9 - "Y'ALL WRONGED HER NOW APOLOGIZE."

KillingYourCareer

8 - "It's funny. Swifties hate it because it was panned, and they felt humiliated because they aren't used to critics going against her. But it's objectively an enjoyable song."

NewStanner

8 - "Kinda cringe, but also fun and camp, idc idc."

Where are you now?

7.3 - "An error occurred (500 error)."

LoveInStereo

6.7 - "Brendon's contribution is the worst part about this song; at the risk of sounding contrarian, the hate towards the song is overblown. The lyrics are silly to reinforce the point of the song, she's gonna do the most but we love her."

Achilles.

6 - "As someone who has been here since Taylor Swift had literally one song, the release of "ME!" is some of the most fun I've ever had in this fandom. Bring back spelling is fun!!"

Nein

6 - "It was cute. The trumpets made this such a happy song. I like it tbh."

Edge of Glory

5.5 - "I abhor the fact that this was the lead single like any sane person but like...ykw, I can still admit its a cute fun little song! Watch The Secret Life of Pets 2 with ur nieces and nephews, and then bop to this after!"

holyground13

5.4 - "I thought she was joking when she first released it. but over time I've found it to be fun if you revel in its sillyness."

Bosque

7 - "Not bad at all."

pavi

5 - "It was both my nightmare and dream to get this as a surprise song."

Bussea

4 - "It's actually not as bad as people make it out to be but I hate Brandon Urine so **** it x."

wastedpotential

2.7 - "Well... *OprahHandsNavySweaterLooksAtCamera.gif*. I don't feel the need to go in here, I'm sure everyone's getting their licks in. Instead, I'd like to take a second to reminisce on the day this song came out. You need to know, if you weren't there, that the primary focus at the time was on YouTube 24 hour viewcounts, back when that was still a viable platform (though it was slowing pretty massively all of 2019). It had been tense, we took the record with Bad Blood, but lost it to Hello, which lost it to Look What You Made Me Do, which lost it to 7 Rings. Now, you have to keep in mind that this was Lord's first Republic era and her first streaming-era era where She wasn't ******* it up by witholding from Spotify, so we knew it would be big and we wanted to make it as big as possible, to please and glorify Her. We had no idea what would come at the end of the tracking week (that round of PTaySD was in our futures still), all we knew at this point was ME! was out in the world (and not very good, though we weren't admitting that to ourselves yet ddd), Ariana and the Arianators had been getting their lashes in at Taylor's streaming numbers, and we really only had this one chance (I remember oomfs being worried that an underperformance here would harm Taylor's relationship with Republic nn). We honestly thought the #1 was totally feasible until Wednesday (competitive, but not far beyond what the numbers would've naturally been), so for that releae Friday, we were DEDICATED to taking back the Vevo 24 hour view record. It had been Taylor's several times before, and now it was held by a competitor whose fans had been talking the most vile **** all year, and this was our chance. I was in university and didn't have classes that Friday, but I also didn't have good wifi in my apartment, so I spent the entire day sitting at a table in the hallway of the library watching the first 30 seconds of the music video (right when it pans to the cats on the couch, I didn't even have to look that up nnn) and then hitting the refresh button. Just as Delicate is the song I've streamed the most across all time, ME! is the video I've seen the most. We were incredibly fortunate, because we did break that record by a wide margin (10M+ views), and then VEVO stopped counting something (too much has happened since for me to remember, but that record is ours forever). Of course, we lost the most viewed music video on YouTube in general to a BTS video not too long after that, but they weren't on VEVO and it didn't count, and now YouTube is basically dead for western artists, so that's one record ME! will always hold. Well, that, and the largest single-week jump on the Hot 100, from 100 to 2.... Maybe we really weren't that fortunate."

Starchild

2 - "The audacity to compare this to RePutation."

wehavetostan

2 - "The first verse could've been promising, and then..."

Life Savers

1 - "Why is this song here? It's not a TS I don't know her."

SLUTTVFTV

1 - "A point extra bc that scene in the MV at the beginning is iconic, and this song is kinda iconic."

Klein

1 - "Let me say one good thing about ME! because everyone is already gonna drag it to the pits of hell: it's a very good song (to determine the Swifties to put on ignore)."

The Music Industry

0 - "I have very vivid memories of the first time I heard ME!ss. When I make a "Top 100 Taylor Swift Songs" playlist, I start by putting all 11 of her albums in the playlist and delete the songs one by one until I hit 100. Yes, I even put Lover in—just so that I can have the satisfaction of deleting the entire tracklist one by one.
