KillingYourCareer Posted September 9 Posted September 9 I think I gave Style a quite mid score like 6-7 but last week, while driving in the north of Iceland, this song started playing as I entered a pass going from one mountain to the other. Clouds can be really low there and I went right through one. There was this sort of golden mist and on my left there was this very scenic canyon and I was like, whew, why didn't I give Style a 10? This is what heaven feels like. 5

Miss Liz Rose did what she had to do by cutting it down." Forever Winter 10 - "OG 5-minute version >>>" Peroxide 11 - "It's considered a masterpiece for a reason. What a perfect song." Holy Ground 11 - "The most Taylor Swift song to ever Taylor Swift. Oh what a moment!!!!!" LoveInStereo 11 - "For the record, I'm scoring the 10 min/magnum opus version." reputation1989 10 - "Yeah it deserves an 11 but I'm stuck between six songs and this gets enough love anyway. 10+ minute version>>>>" Bussea 10 - "The OG >>>> The Bloated version" Where are you now? 10 - "Dancing round the kitchen in the refrigerator light. Queen of wasting electricity." greento 10 - "Unpopular opinion, but I definitely think the 5 minute version is best. It feels more impactful thanks to the production and the more succinct lyrics." Achilles. 10 - "This song (in either form) more than earns its status as a defining part of her legacy; lyrically utilizes so many of her songwriting trademarks, thematically summarizes the entire mission statement of her whole career, its second wind in extended form (topping the Hot 100 and winning a Grammy) exemplifies the significance of the bond between artist and audience." Lorenzo22 10 - "(10MV) 5MV, they could never make me like you, you better thank Forever Winter for the merging or you'd be one of my 0s" wastedpotential 9.7 - "Can y'all ******* get over this one? It's good, it's great, it's fantastic, but we need some new blood on the top of these discography rates. This is geriatric and I've heard it too many times to feel the way I used to. Maybe if there was such a thing as viagra for musical taste then I might get reinvigorated here, but I'm just tired. Ain't y'all tired of this one too? Also, I am rating the New Testament version here because her vocals and the guitar tone are stronger and I like the crescendo better, but the vocal glitch at 1:17, oh Chris Rowe your date with the guillotine is next week for that one!" 1989 9 - "A bit overrated and I don't return to it as much anymore, but I get it. When I do listen to it, it's hard not to argue it as being one of the Crown Jewels of her career." blown away 8.5 - "I do not use that phoned in 10 Minute Version, the original is rather good. The pen game is immaculate." Fitzswiftie 8 - "10 minute version drags it down so much." Flames2Embers 8 - "Somehow this song has lost a bit of its mystique for me over the last couple of years." It's certainly tied with a few others as my absolute favorite, which says something considering how much of her discography I've come to adore and how many times I've listened to this song. The guitar riff, the synths, the drama, the pleading bridge, and the physical imagery intertwined throughout the verses is just a master class of pop songwriting. Beautifully atmospheric and hauntingly moving doesn't even begin to touch the reasons why I consider this a true chef d'oeuvre. This song exemplifies Taylor's idiosyncrasies I find most captivating. Easy to interpret in one way, but more fulfilling when you take the time to discover all the workings lurking underneath. Is it just a pop song about an ex-boyfriend or is it an exercise in infatuation not only with lovers but aesthetics? That's what's so powerful about Style, it works either way." pinkbowvintage 11 - "Her pop masterpiece." Yog 11 - "A GENERATIONAL BOP." MusicLoverDude 11 - "My favorite single of hers that isn't a collab." SLUTTVFTV 11 - "One of her best." brokee 11 - "Another great song from miss taylorrrrrrr. this song take you to magical places." Edge of Glory 11 - "This and cruel summer take turns at my #1 spot...both just pure pop perfection. how many songs get news outlets making video essays on how good they are?? like!!" RihannaLoverrr 10 - "Pop perfection." Klein 10 - "One of the very best pop song she ever wrote. Like damn! Truly a shame that it didn't get a proper video... And btw, yes, the TV is atrocious (comparatively, because in itself it's ok, but it just isn't even close to the greatness of the original)." greento 10 - "Perfect pop song, nothing beats it. Just couldn't give it an 11 as other songs needed help more." kyungsoowift 10 - "OG stans where y'all at." Forever Winter 10 - "Original version is absolute perfection." Life Savers 10 - Pop perfection. She cooked with this one. The Music Industry 10 - "Pop perfection. This is a song that even in decades from now, it'll still sound just as good. It has a uniquely sleek and polished sound that makes it feel both like a very modern hit and a classic at the same time. It achieves something that isn't necessarily easy with Taylor music: it feels effortlessly *cool*. It's one of those songs that is universally loved by almost every demo, and for a good reason. It still remains the quintessential 1989 song in my book." Nein 10 - "My favourite song of hers, ever." wastedpotential 10 - "It's funny how Lord released the New Testament versions of every track in this book except for this one! This literally gets even the most fervent of THOTS onto their feet in joyous praise of its perfection, so I shall not bother telling you what you already know. If only this got a better video and a Grammy performance, but I understand why that didn't happen." blown away 10 - "Love this one a lot. It has a classic feel to it." Rev8 10 - "Thank you Harry Styles." 1989 9.8 - "The TV sounds fine, y'all are just overdramatic." Achilles. 8 - "When they find the gene that makes people gay it will look suspiciously similar to the opening riff of Style. That **** is embedded in our DNA." Where are you now? 7.8 - "Classic + iconic. Classiconic. New words invented to describe this once in a lifetime work of art." Miles. 6 - "I like it, but it's so overrated." 12
KillingYourCareer Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Having said this, I'm listening to All Too Well rn so it's time to reveal it as the winner maybe.
