holyground13 Posted September 8 Posted September 8 It is apt how a Red song took #22 but it should have been another one not this masterwork. Also I know 6 1989 songs in the top 21 is a lot but you can't deny that they're all discography highlights 2

swifthino Posted September 8 Posted September 8 HOW THE **** IS HER BEST SONG #22 HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW I HATE YOU ALL THIS IS UNHEARD OF?!?!!? ABOVE SCAT SUMMER? ABOVE GUILTY AS SHITE??? WHAT DO YOU MEAN IM GONNA KILL MYSELF 2
holyground13 Posted September 8 Posted September 8 It's a kii how when @Forever Winter posted yesterday that an album was going to be safe for that day I thought it surely couldn't have been 1989 because of how many tracks were left but ultimately 1989 came through. I do think all the tracks left from it are stellar - especially Blank Space, Style and Clean. Those are undeniably top 10 Taylor to me. 1 1
Cruel Summer Posted September 8 Posted September 8 IDK if this rate has induced some sort of psychosis in me but I feel compelled to post about how 1989 is a force of nature and for some reason I didn't even skip Wildest Dreams just now 6

Tusk Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I knew post 1989 would get hit after it was discovered that Ratty was the ultimate muse. Modern Swifties have lost the plot for good. Save us, Travis Kelce. 1
Brooklyn Baby Posted September 8 Author Posted September 8 Ok one more reveal for today to give you all some relief 1
blown away Posted September 8 Posted September 8 6 1989 tracks in the top 21 is indeed a but much. But Wildest Dreams, Blank Space and Clean do deserve to be up this high.

SLUTTVFTV 10 - "Should've been on the main album AND lead single." blown away 10 - "A great pop song that deserved a lot better than it got." wastedpotential 10 - "Oh this is the essence of feeling young! I simply cannot help but stand up and dance and jive like a young person when I hear this song. When I hit play and hear "we're all bored...", my hip replacement doesn't bother me, my grey hairs are turning back to blonde, my ear drums are repairing themselves (despite what some of y'all may think about my hearing), my back aches are gone, my comprehension of youth culture grows exponentially, and I just feel young and good (for reference, I turn 25 next week ddddddd). It makes me want to sneak back into my high school to visit the bathrooms where the cool kids used to do drugs that I was always too scared to go into. Funny enough, there's also no New Testament Version of this song, I guess it got lost in the shuffle at Republic Records and just never got released. That's probably for the best, I have a feeling it would be butchered. This is one of the "monster hooks" on Swift 19:89 that had the other girls in the industry RUNNING, this was the Ghengis Khan of pop at WORK. She had clocked into the studio and was ready to get to business ending careers. I feel so liberated as I listen to this hymn whilst writing this, I want to go dig for my Tumblr password and re-live some memories. One random thought that's just struck me as I write this, but I've realized that I literally can't finish this song without immediately bracing for "so over the years...", oh that's PTaySD right there. My copy of 1989 (Target Deluxe) got lost when I forgot to take it out of the CD player in my last car that I sold when I went to grad school ddd, but it's with me in spirit. I feel its presence with me right now. I do think I have the polaroids tucked in a box at my parents house though, maybe I should unearth those at some point and we can do ATRL Swiffer Show and Tell in the base thread one day. I think that's the beauty of this hymn, I can't help but get incredibly nostalgic for times past, and when I'm in a retirement home, I just have a feeling that one listen of this will transport me right back to my early-mid 20s as I live them now. I guess we can call that FutureNostalgia.mp3 ddd, which I guess makes that a true daughter album." The Music Industry 10 - "Heartbreak is the national anthem, and we most definitely sing it proudly. With its infectious chorus, catchy hook and whimsical vibes, New Romantics stands out as one of Taylor's best pop songs. Well... the OG version, that is. :ducky:" sparrowblue 10 - "Might be her best Max Martin shellback track hmm." Where are you now? 10 - "I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't know God. How did she birth such a perfect song? This deserved WAAAAAY more success." Achilles. 10 - "This should have been the biggest hit of the album and the anthem of a generation." Forever Winter 9.1 - "We only stream the original!" Edge of Glory 7.5 - "A diva BUT. it must be said...yall kinda do entirely too much when it comes to her lol!" By the Water 6 - "Unpopular opinion but the TV is actually better than the OG." Miles. 6 - "Overrated like Style. Crazy to me that this is so universally acclaimed when Wonderland is by far the better bonus track." Bosque 4 - "Her most overrated song by far."
TaylenaStan Posted September 8 Posted September 8 SIX 19Katy9 songs above Begin Again.. the Red closer/opener duo deserves a top 10 residency until the end of time in my book 3 1
Michael196 Posted September 8 Posted September 8 BYE GARBAGE I will never get the obsession, this **** aged a week after release, some of you keep on complaining and dragging her carefree happy songs, yet stan the most tragic ones 1 1

Everything melts into perfection." holyground13 10 - "Very underrated. simple, optimistic and gorgeous. the perfect album closer." Klein 10 - "She's yet to release another album closer that can rival Begin Again. The song is perfect, the narrative is perfect. And the video was shot in France so that makes it automatically more special in my eyes. Even when we paid her complete dust, Taylor was showing us love." greento 10 - "Songs like this are where she really shines. Simple acoustic guitars, beautiful melodies and emotional lyrics." Forever Winter 10 - "Hands down the best opener/closer duo. Red will never be topped in that regard." Ampersand13 10 - "For a couple years this was a song that brought me immense comfort. As corny as it sounds, it helped me believe that the devastation someone wrought could be endured and corrected by personal growth and someone new." Bussea 10 - "And THIS is how you close out an ALBUM." Nein 10 - "UGH. Another career highlight as a closing track. This song holds close to my heart." Achilles. 10 - "So funny that she foresaw the negative reactions to her going pop (and with such a deliberately juvenile song at that) and casually tucked this ace up her sleeve just to remind the world that oh yeah she is actually the greatest songwriter working today." wastedpotential 10 - "This was also in serious conversations and negotiations with me for an 11 slot, but I know the rate participants will do right by this song, right? I love listening to this song, as it really does remind me of one specific date I went on, like two weeks after I dumped my psycho ex and moved out of my psycho ex-roommate's apartment in the same week. It was a hard stop and immediate fresh start, and I met a great guy for dinner and a movie right before covid, and it was pretty much the perfect date, and I associate it with the feeling I get when I listen to this song. Of course, that guy turned out to have an ego the size of Jupiter, but I didn't know that at the time, and the date really was lovely. Now, as for this hymn, there really is something to be said for the perfection in simplicity. This hymn isn't complicated, it's not brash or shoved with noise, but it's pretty perfectly produced, and the few elements that are added to the mix elevate the vocals and the story quite nicely. I think my favorite added element is the slight drum fill going into the second verse at 1:36, which feels so good to listen to it's as if those soundwaves burrowed up my- and pressed firmly against my-. The harmonies (which were improved markedly in the New Testament), make me feel like that one meme of SpongeBob floating chest first into a silver, shimmery Heaven with headphones in his ears and his limbs flailing at his sides. I know y'all know what I'm talking about, and I know y'all agree. The lyrics are about as sincere as Lord has ever been, sweet and soft (and demure... sigh), and hopeful about this new man. She just loves love, and you can really tell here. The video is probably her most aesthetically pleasing ever, because I too want to frolick about the sites of Paris without any of the tourists, trash, or unpleasantness. I don't think anyone has enjoyed themselves in Paris as much as Lord is pretending to in this video. I KNOW She's a better actress than some of y'all claim, because you really cannot tell from Her face at all that the streets all smell like piss. Anyway, let me NOT think about her bringing Hobo to that lovely spot by the Seine under that bridge and then posting about it on Instagram... The fact that She tried to connect that man with this song is a criminal offence in my books. Lock Her Up!" blown away 8.9 - "A great song." 1989 7.1 - "Cute song, a bit forgettable, but one of her best videos." Where are you now? 5.9 - "It's obviously top notch songwriting but not as in to the melody & how country it is for Red. I know, I have no taste." girl wtf is this ****? hell nah.

Cruel Summer Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Hot take maybe, but I didn't get the New Romantics hype - at least not the extreme degree of it most of the fanbase shares - until the re-recording. Then it all clicked for me. 1
