wastedpotential Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Just now, Cruel Summer said: S&S is literally the sound she should do next. It's distinct from the Folkmore vibe in that it leans way more into the specific Americana vibe of the Civil Wars - that feature was GENIUS. It shares more sonic DNA with parts of The Anthology than anything else, and even a little bit with Speak Now. Taylor leaning heavily into the indie-Americana-country mix would be the best album ever made. See also: Joy Williams' own song When Does a Heart Move On as an example of what I mean. PoisonedIvy Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Asking again — does anyone have the gif of Viola Davis as Annalise Keating in How to Get Away with Murder, where she's violently shaking the blonde woman (Bonnie) that has just been shot? Pleading for her to stay alive. I'm going to need it very soon. 2

Ampersand13 10 - "I still remember when this song was released and not immediately knowing how to make heads or tails of it. Reputation was the first of Taylor's albums that I pre-ordered, the first era I experienced as a genuine stan, and the record that taught me the beauty of contradiction. Where Red's thematic collisions often feel disingenuous or haphazardly placed together, Reputation's drip with conviction. Perhaps that's why I've grown to love this song to such an extreme. It perfectly encapsulates the duality of performative bravado and quiet vulnerability. You have these loud attitude-driven verses punctuated by a love-filled and soft chorus. Not to mention some of Taylor's best ad-libs, a sustained E5, and clever turns of phrases, there's a reason this song has endured. I know I've said this before but it warrants repeating. Much like many of the tracks of its parent album, Ready for It dares the audience to buy into the facade, almost begging you to take her snark, her pettiness, and her, well, reputation, at face value. But what I find so intoxicating is that, if you give it a chance, you might notice just how thoughtful and carefully constructed this song is. Maybe I sound like an over-zealous fanatic, but I genuinely believe there's more going on here than most give it credit for." Where are you now? 10 - "Pure excellence. Still recall the sense of justice I'd feel when this would come on the radio in the car with my OTH ex-boyfriend." My Tears Ricochet 10 - "World has never been the same after this generational smash was dropped." SLUTTVFTV 10 - "Her best opener (maybe second best bc Fearless)." blown away 10 - "One of my fave Taylor songs. A perfect song for running." Lazuli 10 - "No other song of hers pops off like this." Lorenzo22 9.3 - "This at the Eras Tour was probably the closest to heaven I've been." Bosque 9 - "This song has aged so well honestly. This is how you open an album." frankvert 9 - "RFI intro at Rep tour almost put me in a shallow grave." greento 8.5 - "Banger." brokee 8 - "What an intro." MusicLoverDude 8 - "Baby let the good games begin." wastedpotential 7.4 - "To some degree, I both love and hate this song. I generally think it's a bit of a dated mess with the trop-pop chorus and the bass drop, but as far as dated music goes, this has held up really well as an artifact of its time. The second chorus harmonies are delicious, and this is Her best use of vocoder on this book, but I hate the rapping and the fact that this is all about Hobo. As a tour opener, this was flawless, and as a hype song this is fantastic. The last chorus and outro (so like, the last 40 seconds) is the closest Lord has ever come to making a… Born This Way style wall-of-noise, but it works remarkably well here. Now, I so DESPISE how this song was rolled out and the damage it did to her pop radio career. Big Magachine botched the release so badly, harming LWYMMD and this at the same time, and making this her first pre-release single to not make the pop radio top 10 EVER. We entered some true hit making trenches, and I blame this song and its rollout for that. As a certified ORepH, I do get a kii at how swiftly this was rejected by the listening public. There's nothing like a bit of self-schafenfreude/how low can it go? chart watching. When you already know it's gonna tank, it's fun to see just how much tanking it can do ddd." 1989 6.6 - "I don't love this, but I can't deny it goes off live." By the Water 6.5 - "Fun, energetic bop. Can't wait for the meltdowns from the people begging for puta TV when this gets botched." Achilles. 6 - "Who else would write a hype song that name drops Elizabeth Taylor?" NewStanner 2.5 - "reputation is my fave Taylor album... but this song was lowkey a mistake. From the embarrassing tryhard rap-verses to one of the blandest choruses in her entire discography, RFI just sticks out like a sore thumb in the tracklist." sparrowblue 1 - "Will NEVER be ready for it." Cruel Summer Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Not to stick too hard to the S&S topic, but the fact that it should be the foundation for at least one future Taylor album actually first hit me with another song: Never Grow Up TV. Oh girls the way the bridge of that rerecording hit me like a truck, changed my life, realigned my world. And then The Anthology started to turn it into reality with its several intensely-Sufjan'd songs. I even began to look back at Soon You'll Get Better as a part of the journey. Give us the somber, sad, plucky guitar'd Americana country solo-written album of all my dreams Taylor, I beg the universe for this 3 3
