I obviously knew of her prior to that but I never cared enough to dive in her discography like that. In 2020, when folklore dropped, I listened to the 1 and cardigan (and maybe tlgad), but I wasn't in the mood for that in July so I completely disregarded the album. When I heard she dropped another album later in the year, two things came to my mind. The first was that "damn, I wish Rihanna would give me at least one". The second was that if she released another album so soon, that meant it must be good. I didn't know what I was in for. So willow started, and it immediately took me in. I was brought to this 'imaginary' world she had created, and I was begging for more. The melodies are everything, the lyricism is top notch (I don't even care about the 90s trend line since I love the song so much). Every single remix of this song is just as exceptional as the last one because of those two things (yes, I play the entire witch EP on the regular), even the fanmade raggeaton remix is divine. Same with the medieval cover (Bardcore | Medieval Style Cover) is amazing and I encourage you to check it out. I will forever cherish this song, and it'll always have a special place in my heart." Forever Winter 10 - "Those opening guitar chords tickle the right parts of my brain." SLUTTVFTV 10 - "Perfect intro to her BEST album." Flames2Embers 10 - "I will never get over the glockenspiel in this song." Where are you now? 10 - "Obsessed. Equally with the album version and Elvira remix (put this on your workout playlist). Altering the melody of the last chorus is why I love Taylor Swift." wastedpotential 10 - "Imagine being so good at your job that you invent a new genre: the plucked string gothic medieval bard's love song. Lord can relate. I mean, she already invented Girly Teen Myspace Country and Girly Teen Myspace Country Pop, but this was something different. For heavenmore (and unlike faithlore), I chose to watch this video before going into the rest of the book, and when I say this basically ended my night before it began, I'm not kidding. Actually, I say night, but I'd moved to the Netherlands for grad school at that point so it was actually 6am and I'd pulled an all nighter and gotten incredibly drunk (note that I had a round of exams the following Monday which I did not do particularly well on to absolutely no one's surprise). Anyway, back to my story, I'd stayed up this entire night, finished off a bottle of vodka, and was on the verge of a manic breakdown when all of a sudden, my computer started to play that annoying YouTube premiere music. I remember being absolutely stunned by the video (to the point that I barely registered the song) and being as drunk as I was, it took me like... 20 minutes to recall that an entire album had come out and that I was burning daylight before my 9am class that I didn't end up going to. Still, evermore release day holds a special place in my heart and this song was integral to that. Also, snaps to this song for ending Her radio format #1s drought of the Lover era by somehow becoming a big HAC hit? I don't really understand how that happened, but I guess that's okay. I'm too stupid to understand a lot of things about Taylord and Her Great Machinations. Actually, to that end, I don't think I'm going to comment much about the evermore lyrics, I still don't think I've got a clear enough grasp of their meanings yet (and I've listened to this album front to back without skipping a song basically every single day since it came out, so what does that say about me?), because I am but an intellectual peasant and Lord is a true genius." blown away 9.5 - "The more uptempo, less pretty but still gorgeous sister of cardigan."
