11 - "One of her best songs ever. The lyrics, the production—everything works so well here. I will always be a Maroon stan."

Vespertine

11 - "RIP Kaylor."

wastedpotential

10 - "Here lies a true contender for one of my 11 slots. As surprising as it may be for some of y'all to learn given just how much I have made adoring this hymn a part of my personality, it took me a while to get into this hymn. It was a real "you're not gonna get this song the first time you hear it. After the second and third time, you're gonna be like woah, what is this? It's nothing like anything that's out right now, um, you know, it- its, the lyrics are very, um-" experience for me. One day I was going for a hot girl walk around my neighborhood when I felt the compulsion to listen to nothing but Maroon over and over and over and over and over, and by the time I got back it was my favorite hymn on the album, a title it still holds. There's so much power and grace to the instrumental, so much sadness and loss in the lyrics, so much talent in the hymn. If I had to convince an alien that Lord was the greatest musical act of all time, I'd play this hymn for them, because I know they would understand. OJackAntonoffH, when you go in on that man for his work on like Don't You or whatever, you're also going in on him for his work here, which is shameful. You don't have to like everything he's made, but disparaging his work with a broad brush stroke just makes you look uninformed."

Ampersand13

10 - "10 - This is an 11 and I fully admit that the only reason I didn't give it one was because I ran out of them. However, this song rivals Style, Delicate, and Cowboy Like Me as personal favorites. There's not a single time in which those opening synths don't enrapture and envelop me. I'm suddenly in New York on a cloudy day observing the rise and fall of a love-drunk tryst. Remarkably evocative, doused in poetic physical imagery, haunting lyrics, and complete with a chorus vocal that perfectly reflects the spiral of a person whose mind struggles to comprehend how something effervescent turned ephemeral. I'll never recover from this song and I'll never stop loving it. Just a gorgeous and moody haze of love lost."

frankvert

10 - "Would've been an 11 if I had more to give."

Miles.

10 - "I LOVE this and I was about to give it an 11 when I remembered I had to save one for WAOLOM. Just know this is an honorary 11. The chorus with like 7 different shades of red mentioned is so brilliant. That's a real ******* legacy is a perfect, powerful, PUNCHING use of the F bomb. Masterpiece."

Where are you now?

10 - "All the burgundy, wine, blood, scarlet, rust, maroon color references are magical. Love on the second chorus when she sings "t-shirt" and the "collarbone" on a different note."

SLUTTVFTV

9.5 - "One of the few gems on Midnights, this is where the moody synth-pop really works."

Starchild

8 - "Her rap game is strong here, end fame who?"

blown away

5.5 - "It's okay."

Achilles.

4 - "Overrated and kinda bland, but great bridge."

My Tears Ricochet

10 - "I want this banger to be played at my funeral, enough said."

Life Savers

10 - "Deserves Cruel Summer treatment."

reputation1989

10 - Always knew this should've been a single.

Forever Winter

10 - "Religious excellence and deserved the blowup it had on TikTok."

Where are you now?

9.7 - "Take every last one of us to church and force us to REPENT, Serpent Mother."

blown away

9.2 - "She snapped with this song. There's something mystical and majestic about this song."

Lorenzo22

9 - "The live performances elevate this one so much but we love the recording either way."

wastedpotential

8.6 - "Of the darker and bass-heavy tracks, this one has obviously held up the best (just check that Spotify counter for some evidence), but it just doesn't enthuse me like it once did. The verses are gorg and tense and sexy, the pre chorus builds so well, the bridge (though about 8 seconds) is an awakening, but the chorus… it's just a letdown. The synth pulses and pulls underneath are the only redeeming quality to the chorus, because lyrically it's not all that exciting. Now, the verses (especially the second one (*in a SZA at the 2023 Grammys voice* 'ha, hi @poisonedivy!') are very well written, tight and fatal. This song DOES take all one point two billion of us to Church, and almost has me curled on the floor speaking in tongues, but alas. The Eras performance is so hot though!"

1989

8.5 - "The hype is real. Best song on Rep."

By the Water

8.5 - "Aged like wine. Another song I fear will be botched by Christopher Rowe."

NewStanner

5 - "Overhyped."

sparrowblue

1 - "If not you, who can we blame for this mess song?"

Thought this would go top 10

Maroon's bridge is immaculate, I'm glad I had a chance to sing it live with Taylor. That said, my 9th surprise song is out :emofish:

I would place it a little lower though, but I'm not mad about the result!

I have 3 11s left as we start today I think. Let's see how far that lasts.

Okay good not Champagne Jesushymns :heart2:

Now I have to say I really do adore Maroon. It NAILS the moody, dark synths that make up so much of Reputation, which makes it a great callback kind of song - it almost feels out of place on Midnights for that reason. It just feels like the perfect crystallization of a Reputation vibe.
