10 - "Oh Lena, Lena, Lena. What can I say about you? I called TWILY the most vocally improved New Testament, and I think Lena is the most improved production wise. Every synth tone is just a bit fresher, the transitional soundscapes are clearer, the mixing is airy but not blank, and there are so many little details (guitar strums, twinkles, whispers, the extra synth pulse in the bridge, etc.) in the background that must've taken an incredible amount of time for a re-released bonus track. As for the hymn, I listen and picture myself in New York in mid-December, the morning after a snowfall. It's early in the morning and the streets are quiet and pristine, the air cold but not biting. Lena Dunham is running towards me down the street with her arms outstretched coming in for a kiss. Well... maybe Sean O'Pry instead ddd. This hymn's production is so timeless, the lyrics are so universal (and yet specific, which is where Lord has always thrived). One of my favorite moments in Lord's entire career has been the meta moment at the end of the bridge with "and you understand now why they lost their minds and fought the wars/and why I've spent my whole life trying to put it into words" like yes *****, I DO understand. The tears are freezing to my ******* cheeks, but I understand. I wonder what Jack thinks about this now, does he apply it to Margaret? He clearly still likes and cares about the song because he gave far above and beyond the bare minimum (considering how the rest of Swift 19:89 New Testament was produced nnn) in improving every little tweak to the production here. I hope he really just appreciates the love letter from Lord. Speaking of, I wonder how Lorde feels about having broken up the You Are In Lena couple? Do y'all think she thinks its funny? Do we know if she still talks to Lena? I know Lord does from time to time, though I'd rather her not. Alas, so long as Lena is not prominently placed in Her and Travis's wedding photos, I will tolerate Lena's presence in Her life, because it got us this glorious hymn!"
