The Out Of The Woods references are well done, as are some of the lyrics, I'm personally quite fond of "Cause I don't remember who I was before you painted all my nights a color I've searched for since", but that's immediately followed up with the "fuckin situations" lyric, which brings me right back down to the 6.5 I want to give this in spite of the good. I hate everything about the chorus (aside from the aforemetioned Out Of The Woods callback). I think this should've followed the Delicate blueprint and had the major percussive element enter at the start of the second verse, rather than the second chorus as it does now, because the longer slower section makes the song feel far longer than it is. All that's to say, I'm quite surprised ther Larry beardism relationship was apparently so emotionally impactful that She felt the need to revisit it and write about it (and that even now, Calvin doesn't warrant a song nnn). Original is an 8." Where are you now? 9 - " Yeah the lyrics are nothing magnificent but it's so incredibly catchy that it doesn't matter. Some of her best 3rd/final chrous ad libs to exist. In time have preferred Kendrick remix to the album cut." kyungsoowift 8 - "I'm generous so count the Kendrick one." wastedpotential 7.1 - "Welcome to your tape, Katheryn Hudson. You don't know it yet, but your career is about to die! I feel like I have to justify liking this song more than I'll have to justify any other pick on this list, and I don't even like this song thaaaat much, but here goes. Bad Blood is a good enough song, and certainly accomplishes the task it set out to do with ease. The instrumental is far too plink-plonky for my tastes (the remix helps, but adds its own host of problems), Lord's vocals are shouty, and the lyrics are pretty ******* flimsy ("you made a really cu-uh-ut" turning into as many syllables as it did is just lazy, I'm sorry). However, at the exact same time, this song is pulling down its pants, squatting down, and taking a GIANT dump at the foot of a tombstone marked "Here Lies The Career Of Katy Perry (2008-2013)", with a subheading of "Nine #1s, Tied MJ, nostalgia-bait to the max, several diamond singles". We can't solely attribute the fall of Katy's career to this song (it was probably an inevitability with or without this song), but there aren't many former music industry titans whose career downfalls can be laid at the feet of ONE song from their enemy. I think in another world there was a diss track battle, but Bad Blood being as huge as it was (even if it's not especially... cutting), and then Swish Swish pulling a #46-OUT essentially killed any potential for that. Whether people will admit it or not, this was the "Not Like Us" of the 2010s. Besides, this goes OFF at the gym, I always feel so hot and powerful blasting this through my airpods loud enough so everyone else can hear while I'm lifting (because I AM obnoxious that way (actually because I have crippling gym anxiety and will only go if it's literally empty so there's no one to bother, but I hope I made you mad for a second nnn)). The Should've Said No x Bad Blood megasmash crossover event of the century, is proof of Lord's mastermindedness, because I'm still singing them both together in the shower after all these years. I know Katy's therapist had these lyrics printed out at some point, and that really just makes it so enjoyable ddddd. I know some of y'all are too good to admit it, but punching down at a deserving victim can be a good time! I rest my case." MusicLoverDude 7 - "Kendrick brought the fire on the remix along with the production but this was still a letdown." Edge of Glory 6.5 - "Shake It Off video accused of cultural appropriation, style not reaching #1 after sio/bs, fake white feminist allegations starting to build...she had one chance to kill katy perry and she took it." Forever Winter 6.5 - "1989 original album is truly skipless. Even Bad Blood." By the Water 4.5 - "The remix kinda saves this song." 1989 1 - "Kendrick did not save this one. Only dud on 1989 for me." freakum. 1 - "1 for Kendrick's verse." sparrowblue 1 - " Not even Kendrick helped." Bussea 1 - "Kendrick actually made the song better but no xx." Achilles. 1 - "I am so tired of this song."
