It showed clear as day that the US was not ready for a Black man to be in office, no matter how "progressive" people try to make the US seem. Obama, coupled with his comments during the BLM protests was the catalyst for Trump being in office. This country was not yet ready to see Black people as humans. Seeing whiteness as superior and everything that is not as inferior or subhuman is the foundation of the US economy. They saw themselves being pushed as the perpetrators and Black people as the victims. For the cogs of white supremacy to function, Blackness and anything adjacent to it needs to be seen as something that is poisonous and only white people can save them. When a Black man was in the position to help Black people, they LOST it. Just the thought that Obama could push a policy that benefited Black people like how they push policies that benefit white people was their final straw. Trump being elected was a result of that and Biden getting elected after (who is associated with Obama) didn't help either.
