Edonis Posted July 18 Posted July 18 I don't think many remember the performance that much, but the Jo character goes viral among Gen Z bisexuals every now and then, with some clips from this show so idk.
supertiffany Posted July 18 Posted July 18 she was already seen as cringe by the gp starting that so yeah
YourFavoriteWeapon Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Yes. She has a lot of better performances from that era.

Mittens Posted July 18 Posted July 18 I haven't thought about this performance in awhile! I remember being underwhelmed when she came out as Joe. I also wanted to see her glammed up and gorgeous following the VMA teaser, but I was also a young teen back then lol Looking back at it just now my opinion has completely changed. I loved the monologue because shes describing her relationship with Luke. He was always so bitter and jealous of her success. When they broke up he said something to the effect of not wanting to ride her coat tails / live in her shadow. It was such a serve for her to flip the script and come out acting like him Thanks for posting this! Watching it again as an adult hit different.
MadMax12 Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Yeah the monologue was cringey but the performance was great and full of energy. It made You and I a hit

I remember being hyped thinking she was moving on from the "You and I" era and giving us an iconic dark sexy performance. The promo was so misleading youre right this promo is way more iconic

Gladiator Posted July 19 Posted July 19 (edited) Yes. I was a stan at the time and I did my best to purge it from my memory as it was happening. I found it so disappointing and cringe after the really hype Government Hooker promo TV spot she had advertising her performance (which is by far the best advertisement of an artist I can remember). Sannie Posted July 19 Posted July 19 (edited) Yeah. It wasn't super impactful, even at the time, simply because of what she chose to do in order to subvert expectations. I applaud it, but not really something people would remember. Edit: The main problem with it was that most people didn't even know it was her. Edited July 19 by Sannie
AvadaKedavra Posted July 19 Posted July 19 I was so dissapointed that night. There was space for something iconic with britney and she ruined it with joe calderone
