I would also like to note here that "ironic homophobia" has gotten really, really bad online as well, surprisingly a lot of it from women.

A discord server I'm in did a lot of this "ironic homophobia" and i was kinda used to it but since the server was growing larger with many newcomers being unfamiliar of stan humour/culture admins decided to ban the f-slur and while the regulars revolted on the chat i saw someone say "half of the people saying that word here were straight women" and ngl that was kinda an eye opener for me. (that and some guy who acted all fruity and used "ironic homophobia" humour yet claimed he was straight when confronted about it, I remember he once said "X gave me a pass" to which X replied "no" ijbol).

Spoiler

My take on that humour is that it's niche and should remain like that if it does keep existing (e.g. I personally find it okay to make millie bobby brown jokes w my besties bc we know it's not serious + we're all queer anyways), as soon as it gets "normalized" it's problematic because it enables homophobes to get a "pass" in the form of "comedy" like that ""straight"" guy I mentioned earlier who ended every other post with "eow" (like tf does that even mean)

Gay culture =/= being gay

Gay culture is, well, a culture. Some people relate, feel like they belong, and engage with all or some fractions of it; but it's not for anyone. Just because you're queer doesn't mean you have to force yourself to like drag or [insert here], just be yourself.

Edit: In a similar note, I've also heard of allies who engage in gay culture despite not being gay, it also goes the other way around like that.

A lot of straight women allies are good examples of people participating in queer culture but not being queer themselves

Like at a certain point we have to ask, are these actually popular opinions?

ok here comes a hot take:

(tw/cw)

Spoiler

"LG" advocates should be lined up against a wall and shot like in the "good" old times (/hyp). Just because you're "an oppressed minority" doesn't mean you get to be biphobic, transphobic, aphobic, etc. all at once.

Acting like a "Regina George" was never cute or cool it's actually one of the reasons why people hate gays (even ppl in our community)

That's a thing??? I watched Mean Girls (2004) for the first time earlier this week (yes ik I live under a rock, call me Patrick if you want) and Regina George seemed like an insufferable type of person? Like she's a book villain pretty much, why would people want to copy her attitude??

Sorry but this is not the T you think it is. An example of bi erasure

talking about erasure, Can y'all (speaking only towards those who do) stop removing the A from the acronym??? idk in english-speaking countried but over here it's always "LGBTI" like... asexual, aromantic, agender, etc. people also exist, we're here even if you like to pretend we don't.

I'm sorry that I don't think that the girl who claims to be 5% attracted to the same sex, who has a full-time boyfriend, or the guy that sleeps with men on the lee-low then goes off with girls for LTR to reap the benefits have done much for the community. There's no struggle there.

as if all bisexual people fit under these two stereotypes... 🙄

here's something for the general population: stop generalizing, it narrows your views a lot.

Feel free to only do whatever you want in the bedroom but idk the new "side" position always has given me a little flavor of internalized homophobia

Side isn't a new thing for gay or straight people. It's been a thing forever. It just has a term recently but it is not a new phenomenon.

Not you lashing dinorhino. Period. :clap3:

In all seriousness though I agree. People who constantly keep trying to remove the "BTA+" are weirdos.

LGB should be a completely different category.

TQI should be a completely different category, sexual orientation and gender identify are immensely different from each other. sometimes it's awkward being tossed around as LGBTQI+. different situations, different struggles.

I think they're not because even if they're separate stuff on a theoric/technical level, society-wise they're still grouped together as "freaks" or "queer" so

I remember a time where it was always "LGBTQIA+" why people have been ommitting the A in the past years??

There's a pandemic of "bottom onlys." Where are the tops? Where are the real vers kings? I feel like like "pure bottoms" are just insecure of their peen size/how their body looks. Use that dick too, Kings!

Gay people need to start learning how to fight. I'm being so fr! Especially after November.

You're not as masc as you think.

While I haven't personally witnessed this, I can imagine. Porn has done too much damage to guys everywhere. (edit: and girls too ofc)

Spoiler

No but fr I wish I didn't discover porn as early as 13 (iirc? maybe it was 12 idr tbh), I think I wouldn't have had that much to heal back if I had discovered it like 3 years later. Seeing reports on TV that kids are now watching porn at 10 makes me worry lowkey, the dysmorphia on these poor ones is going to be huge growing up thru their teens into adulthood.

there's no such thing as a versatile guy ok? Versatile guys are either bottoms too ashamed to own up to their position or bottoms who are willing to top. Most "vers" guys have bottomed more than topped in their life

Yeah I discovered it at 12 and I really feel it did a decent bit of damage to the way I viewed my own body for quite a while

BDSM culture is a mental disease. No one should be dominated or dominate to the extreme where it hurts people.
