Are Britney's #1s faux-hits?

Recommended Posts

Spears has had six number-one albums on the Billboard 200 and five number-one singles on the US Billboard Hot 100: "...Baby One More Time", "Womanizer", "3", "Hold It Against Me", and "S&M (Remix).

Out of these, I feel that ...BOMT is the only real hit. S&M is more remembered as a solo hit for Rihanna and the others are debatable. What do you think?

Womanizer did good on pop radio at the time, sold 4M downloads and has a respectable amount of Spotify streams for a 2008 song. It was a real hit, there's no room for discussion about that one. :rip:

The other ones were just quick hits, but that doesn't make them illegitimate.

No. It's just that her #1 hits weren't her biggest hits but that happens to many artists as well.

Hold It Against Me and the S&M Rihmix are definitely not hits, but the other 3 were. Obviously 3 and Womanizer are not as big as Baby One More Time, but they are known by the GP (maybe not everyone knows 3, but Womanizer is clearly very known).

How the **** is a multi-platinum certified #1 single not a hit, lol.

Out of her #1s only HIAM may be doubtful but the rest had decent runs so no.

There's a difference between hits and smash hits, and all of Britney's #1s were hits, but only "...Baby One More Time" smashed.

The one that broke the Guiness World Record for going #1 in every country it charted in?

The one from the album that was a top 6 best seller of 2009?

The single with no promotion that debuted at #1?

The one that sold 400k + in its 1st week and became her first top 5 radio hit?

Nah

I'll give you HIAM and S&M, but 3 and the others were REAL hits, without endless remixes and gimmicks. That said, does it even matter when your other singles are also remembered and bigger than some girls quick little #1s? :khalyan2:

Womanizer is definitely a hit lmao. I always hear it at the gay club and heard it on the radio yesterday. HIAM is definitely a faux-hit though and is very forgotten.

I think people tend to write this song off because of the lack of longevity it had on the BBH100.

I love how mad Britney makes some stans because they consider her a worthless talentless hag, yet she's had literally historic, monumental success since she was a teenager.

And that's on charisma and star power baby! :gaycatney1:

HIAM and 3 were quick hits, and there's nothing wrong with that

She has plenty of non #1 singles that are bigger, anyways.

With the exception of HIAM, they were all well-rounded hits with big sales and radio airplay. Maybe 3 isn't as revered nowadays but back then it was just as much of a hit as its peaks suggest.

also probably because it's pulling 5 digit daily streams on Spotify. which is an improvement because it was pulling 4 digit daily streams before :rip:

I wouldn't describe them as "faux" hits but her real hits are the ones pulling 1 million+ streams daily on spotify. Toxic, Gimme More, BOMT, Oops
