Lagerfeld Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Spears has had six number-one albums on the Billboard 200 and five number-one singles on the US Billboard Hot 100: "...Baby One More Time", "Womanizer", "3", "Hold It Against Me", and "S&M (Remix). Out of these, I feel that ...BOMT is the only real hit. S&M is more remembered as a solo hit for Rihanna and the others are debatable. What do you think? 2 2 3 47
Popular Post Gorjesspazze9 Posted July 18 Popular Post Posted July 18 They were hits. Just cuz something isn't popular a decade later don't mean it didn't hit then. And growing up then I can tell you womanizer and 3 were big hits for the general public. Yall relay on charts to much. 39 4
Popular Post Devin Posted July 18 Popular Post Posted July 18 all britney's #1 hits were legit, earned, and deserved. 39 5
Popular Post WaterDiamonds Posted July 18 Popular Post Posted July 18 (edited) Womanizer is still doing great numbers to this day and is widely known, 3 and HIAM fell behind in streaming but that doesn't mean they weren't popular when they were released, HIAM broke the most digital downloads in a week record back in 2011 for example. Anyhow, B's biggest hit, Toxic, didn't perform amazingly in the BBH100 but look at it now doing 1M daily streams after 20 years, charts don't always determine how big a song is, specially in the long run, period. Scars Posted July 18 Posted July 18 (edited) Womanizer did good on pop radio at the time, sold 4M downloads and has a respectable amount of Spotify streams for a 2008 song. It was a real hit, there's no room for discussion about that one. The other ones were just quick hits, but that doesn't make them illegitimate. Edited July 18 by Scars 7 2
ChooseyLover Posted July 18 Posted July 18 No. It's just that her #1 hits weren't her biggest hits but that happens to many artists as well. 2

Summer Boy Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Hold It Against Me and the S&M Rihmix are definitely not hits, but the other 3 were. Obviously 3 and Womanizer are not as big as Baby One More Time, but they are known by the GP (maybe not everyone knows 3, but Womanizer is clearly very known). 4 1

UnusualBoy Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Out of her #1s only HIAM may be doubtful but the rest had decent runs so no. 2
Popular Post brazil Posted July 18 Popular Post Posted July 18 (edited) You could also argue many of her non-#1 hits (Toxic, Oops, Gimme More) are bigger than most girlies #1s Edited July 18 by brazil 20
bielneira Posted July 18 Posted July 18 There's a difference between hits and smash hits, and all of Britney's #1s were hits, but only "...Baby One More Time" smashed. 1
naval23 Posted July 18 Posted July 18 The one that broke the Guiness World Record for going #1 in every country it charted in? The one from the album that was a top 6 best seller of 2009? The single with no promotion that debuted at #1? The one that sold 400k + in its 1st week and became her first top 5 radio hit? Nah 5 4
joehyche Posted July 18 Posted July 18 they're all hits. they were all everywhere and constantly on the radio upon release. 1 1 1
modeblock Posted July 18 Posted July 18 I'll give you HIAM and S&M, but 3 and the others were REAL hits, without endless remixes and gimmicks. That said, does it even matter when your other singles are also remembered and bigger than some girls quick little #1s? 2
YourFavoriteWeapon Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Womanizer is definitely a hit lmao. I always hear it at the gay club and heard it on the radio yesterday. HIAM is definitely a faux-hit though and is very forgotten. 1

modeblock Posted July 18 Posted July 18 (edited) I love how mad Britney makes some stans because they consider her a worthless talentless hag, yet she's had literally historic, monumental success since she was a teenager. And that's on charisma and star power baby! Edited July 18 by modeblock 6
A Million Lights Posted July 18 Posted July 18 HIAM and 3 were quick hits, and there's nothing wrong with that She has plenty of non #1 singles that are bigger, anyways.
dumbsparce Posted July 18 Posted July 18 With the exception of HIAM, they were all well-rounded hits with big sales and radio airplay. Maybe 3 isn't as revered nowadays but back then it was just as much of a hit as its peaks suggest. 1
Movimento Perpétuo Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Even tho Hold it Against Me was frontloaded, Womanizar and 3 were huge hits, wyd? 2

Mupps Posted July 18 Posted July 18 (edited) I wouldn't describe them as "faux" hits but her real hits are the ones pulling 1 million+ streams daily on spotify. Toxic, Gimme More, BOMT, Oops Edited July 18 by Mupps
